Most athletes only work on their physical abilities to improve their performance, but they are missing a key element. Mental performance can affect performance outcomes just as much as physical abilities but many athletes do not have the tools or the skills to improve their mental performance. That is where I, as a mental health consultant, can step in to help coach and provide tools for athletes to improve their mental abilities.

Get to know Coach Tommy

About Me:

I grew up in Southern California but have spent the majority of my life in Colorado. Growing up I played tons of different sports and eventually began playing travel baseball, basketball and soccer. I continued to play sports in high school where I was a Varsity Baseball and Basketball player. Around this time is when I really started to feel the pressure and stress that can come from playing competitive sports, but I felt like there was no one I could talk to about the struggles I was encountering. I know firsthand the mental challenges athletes experience that can affect their performance. That is the main reason why I am so passionate about working with athletes to help them improve their mental abilities and have spent most of my adult life coaching youth of all ages in different sports.

How I can help you improve your game:

I give athletes the tools and the knowledge to improve their mental performance during competition. I also view myself as a team member with the athlete and help provide the support they need to perform to the best of their abilities.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

A typical session with me involves discussing the challenges an athlete may be experiencing in their sport and working together to find solutions and resources that athletes can use to perform to the best of their abilities. Examples of resources I commonly use are goal setting, positive self talk, imagery practice, routine creation and breathing exercise just to name a few.

Career summary and accomplishments:

My undergrad degree is Physical Education and Childhood Psychology and I have a graduate degree in Sports Psychology and Performance. I have an extensive background in many different sports from my playing career and also through my time as a Athletic Director for the Boys and Girls Club of America. I have experience coaching youth sports in Baseball, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, and Soccer. I also coached girls high school basketball as well.

My number one priority is creating a safe and supportive environment for my clients so they can feel comfortable discussing the challenges they maybe having with their mental performance. I am a firm believer in not telling an athlete what will help them. Instead I like to collaborate with athletes as a team to find the resources and tools that will work for them and help them be successful.

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.
