About Me:

As an athlete, I lettered in swimming, baseball and football, was a D2 walk-on in basketball, and have earned 5 blackbelts in 3 different styles, competed internationally, while I also studied/collaborated with a multitude of practitioners of other styles for over 40 years. Like most, I have casually played volleyball, tennis, racquetball, basketball, football, baseball, softball (slo-pitch) my entire life. I am an avid golfer too (a 'ham & egger': -12 handicap, 285-300 off the tee). All of these activities have the same hand-eye requirements (neuro-muscular pathways) and they rely upon a functional understanding of kinesiology and physiology, and both Newtonian and Quantum physics (movements/motion & time/space continuums). I just happen to have studied these elements. (It's science, and yeah, it's really real.)

How I can help you improve your game:

It is understood that it takes 10,000 PERFECT repetitions to create a new neuro-muscular pathway (one that fires at the speed & unconsciousness of reflex) ... and only 1 self-defeating thought to interrupt it. Visualization leads to manifestation. Emotions, mindset, and physiology have a continuous dynamic reciprocal effect on one another. Accurate self-awareness precipitates emotional intelligence and lays the groundwork for the discipline/practice/platform to personal mastery (a life-long endeavor). An acute understanding of Newtonian physics, kinesiology, physiology (i.e., motion/movement), along with principles of quantum physics (i.e., time/space continuum) allows me to teach/guide/mentor you to learn how to 'slow the game down'.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

We begin with trust and a candid conversation about expectations, goals, and desired outcomes. (Initial consultation $30 ... if you choose to engage, each working session is $75/45 mins - I always leave a buffer in case we need it.) We will work over Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp, or Facetime. (If you are local to me and want to hire me for hitting/catching or golf instruction too, we can link up at a local spot.)

We will rely upon psychometric assessments to gain understanding and to attain accurate self-awareness. From there we map out our path to success. This is a collaborative, iterative and long-term endeavor. There are no 'overnight successes' (Rome was not built in a day!), there will be setbacks and adversity, and we will overcome those as a team.

Best coach I ever had:

My mom! She earned her 1st blackbelt at 50 after surviving sexual assault in a grocery store parking lot. She still holds HS records in track & field and basketball (Go Bears!). She taught me to throw and catch a baseball, taught me the game within the game, taught me to play hoops, football, and to play drums and read music too!!! She was and will always be my hero, but after her, hands down it is Fred Dohrmann (Widener University, DELCO HOF) and Kathi Veroni (Western Illinois University, NCAA HOF, NFCA HOF) - neither are afraid to call BS or to praise the little things - they have proven to be the dearest of friends and mentors!

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I have played, studied, taught/coached martial-arts, golf, basketball, football, baseball, and softball for 40 years. My formal education began with nursing, transitioned to healthcare informatics and project management, Law (briefly), and then applied psychology: Neuropsychology, Developmental Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Personality Psychology, Positive Psychology, and Sport Psychology. I work with both the athlete and her/his parents to develop emotional resilience and clarify expectations and perspective; to hone factors of personal mastery, such as 'self-acceptance' and 'acceptance of reality' to develop emotional resilience; to identify social drives and behavior patterns (positive and negative) which either support or erode performance at the highest levels, and we work together to improve or mitigate them accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.

Our coaches are open to helping athletes of any age and skill level. Please message your desired coach to ensure their skillset fits your needs.

AU was created by former collegiate and professional athletes. We understand the benefits of training with a private coach. It develops discipline, boosts confidence, and provides an undeniable advantage - whether you are just learning the game or looking to earn a college scholarship. All AU coaches are required to pass a thorough onboarding process and we proudly showcase a 10% acceptance rate, so you can trust you're training with the best.

At the end of the day, our mission is to provide athletes with better opportunities to succeed through coaching. You won't find a platform, and group of dedicated specialists, more excited to help you achieve your athletic goals!
