Athletic Background
Summary of Career and Accomplishments
I was an 8th grade Varsity walk on for my high school tennis team in South Carolina, transferred to NC & made the team for my new school before graduating. I'm currently a college club tennis player for NC State. I've worked alongside the men's coaching team at State & I just recently signed on as a Sponsored Tennis Athlete/Hit Squad team member with Babolat.
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
I had the chance to work with NC State's Assistant Women's Coach. He's from Australia & taught me so much, after already having years of experience. He's one of the coaches who has taught now professional tennis players. I try to mix his teachings into my lessons.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I'm a very patient coach. I love going over specifics and making sure the student knows exactly how to hit the ball. I'm not going to overrun or yell, but simply offer words of encouragement and fix little things here and there. I'm also a very fun coach, as I like to be serious at times, but I also have a little bit of a goofball side to me, as I really love this sport and know how to have fun in my training sessions. I'm also a media sponsor/tennis athlete for Babolat!
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
I've coached for many different organizations. Had the opportunity to work for my school's middle school middle school guys and girls teams for a few years, K-12 School. I've been the lead rep for a few organizations and have worked many, many camps. Some beginner type, others advanced. I've done it all!
How can you help someone improve their game?
I'm a big believer in progress first and foremost. I'm going to teach everything at a pace that the student will understand. I don't rush anything, as I always say, Rome wasn't built in a day, have to trust the process.
What does a typical training session look like?
I may start with a light fundamental warmup. If the student has tennis experience, I may do a little short court across the net from the service line, then move to the base before getting started in drills/serving or point play. If the student is a beginner, I'll do a light fundamental warmup & focus on the forehand & backhand motions before hitting, then transition to hand-toss feeding and maybe racquet feed towards the end. Always making sure to finish each session with a little competition for fun!
