About Me:

Accomplished 4.0+ tennis player for over 40+ years turned pickleball enthusiast over the last three years. Also an Innovative Coach and Community Leader, consistently delivering a calculated approach to positively impacting the lives of individuals and groups in the areas of life and social skills, college preparation, career development, and health. Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstration of building relationships and working collaboratively in both traditional and remote settings, while managing and coordinating projects and goals.

How I can help you improve your game:

As a Level 1 pickleball instructor, I will strive to improve my students' game with a combination of foundational skill-building, strategy development, and encouraging a positive, supportive learning environment. I'll start with the basics, develop game awareness, focus on consistency, incorporate drills, introduce court awareness and movement, promote mental toughness, adapt to individual needs, promote fitness, use video analysis and create a fun and engaging environment!

What a typical training session looks like with me:

Depending on the skill level of the students (beginner, intermediate, or advanced), the lesson will vary in complexity however, I will ensure it’s effective and engaging for all levels.

Warm-Up (5-10 minutes)

1. Light jogging around the court or dynamic stretches.

2. Footwork drills: i.e. shuffle steps, cross-steps.

Skill Focus: Forehand Groundstroke (15-20 minutes)

1. Introduction: Explanation of proper grip, stance, and swing mechanics for a forehand.

2. Demonstration showing a forehand groundstroke.

3. Drill: Students practice hitting forehands with a partner or coach, focusing on form, follow-through, and consistency.

Skill Focus: Serving (15-20 minutes):

1. Explanation: Teach the basic rules and mechanics of serving.

2. Drill: Practice serving underhand (or overhand for more advanced beginners).

3. Focus on accuracy: Students should aim for a specific target zone within the service box.

Mini-Games (10-15 minutes)

1. Play a short game or “rally-to-point” focused on using forehands and serves.

2. Students should focus on consistency and using proper form.

Cool Down & Review (5-10 minutes)

1. Stretching and light conversation.

2. Summary of the lesson, review of key points, and provide feedback.

Q&A and Wrap-up (5 minutes)

2. Students are encouraged to practice at home or during free play.

Best coach I ever had:

Joan Ramey was my tennis coach in high school. She was meticulous and taught me all the basics including bouncing a tennis ball on my racquet 100 times. I did this on one side, then the other and then flipping my racquet over and under. This taught me control of my racquet and to not use my wrists. I couldn't move on to any other skill until I mastered the "Joan Ramey" basics. From there every stroke she taught me was to be nearly flawless. I didn't learn all the sexy stuff, she taught me the flat, yet perfect timing forehand and backhand strokes. I had several coaches over the years but no one had the patience of Joan Ramey to teach me the beauty of tennis and why mastering each shot properly matters for a life-long love of the game.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

Reputed as one with an infectious, confident enthusiasm, who thrives on interaction, positively engages people, and then motivates and invests in moving them forward into development and growth.

A persuasive communicator, coaching and disseminating information both in-person and through online platforms.

Bringing a wealth of wisdom and life experience from disciplines such as coaching, training, leadership, health and wellness, and business operations and development.

Displaying a forward-thinking approach and a capacity to quickly learn and grow with a positive attitude.

Demonstrating strong leadership while maintaining the highest level of integrity and professionalism.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.

Our coaches are open to helping athletes of any age and skill level. Please message your desired coach to ensure their skillset fits your needs.

AU was created by former collegiate and professional athletes. We understand the benefits of training with a private coach. It develops discipline, boosts confidence, and provides an undeniable advantage - whether you are just learning the game or looking to earn a college scholarship. All AU coaches are required to pass a thorough onboarding process and we proudly showcase a 10% acceptance rate, so you can trust you're training with the best.

At the end of the day, our mission is to provide athletes with better opportunities to succeed through coaching. You won't find a platform, and group of dedicated specialists, more excited to help you achieve your athletic goals!
