Get to know Sloan

Collegiate Track and Cross Country Athlete with experience at all run levels!

Hi! My name is Sloan - I've been a competitive runner for over a decade, and truly love the sport. As a competitive collegiate athlete, I gained experience with the highest quality training methods for distances ranging from 1500 meters up to Half Marathons. I also have robust experience coaching runners of all levels as Founder and Co-President of the Occidental College Run Club. I know running can be difficult at times, but my goal is to impart my love for the sport and approach your training at a level you are comfortable with! Hope to see you out there! - Sloan

About me

High school: Varsity Cross Country and Track Athlete freshman to senior year. Cross Country Champions freshman and sophomore year. Scoring (top 5) member of cross country team from sophomore to senior year.

College: I competed on the Occidental Cross Country and Track teams for 3 years, from 2021 to 2023. As a sophomore and junior, I competed as a scoring member of the team, placing between 2nd and 5th on the team every race. In track, I participated in the 1500, 5k, and 3k steeplechase.

Thanks to 9 years of experience running competitively in middle, high school, and college, I have a strong repertoire of workouts and training methods proven to improve running ability. Additionally, because I am a former athlete who still trains consistently for races I have the perspective of a runner and understand both the challenges and joys of running. Furthermore, I have experience leading workouts and coaching runners who are brand new to the sport or have experience with consistent running through my role as Co-President and Founder of the Occidental Run Club.

For running workouts, I like to implement a mix of interval workouts typically on a track, and threshold tempo workouts on a trail or road. For example, an interval workout tailored to a 10k race may include track intervals of 1000 meters, 1200 meters, and 1400 meters at a goal 10k pace, with the set being completed 3 times, and more rest between sets compared to intervals. For threshold workouts, an example of a workout for a relatively newer runner is a 4 by 5 minute tempo with a one minute walk/jog in between.

I have coached a variety of runners through the Occidental Run Club and have extensive knowledge of training methods and workouts through 9 years of competitive running.

My favorite coach, and the one who instilled a love for running and exercise as a whole, is my high school coach Paul Carrozza. He showed up to every practice with energy and positivity which is something that inspired me to continue showing up even on days where I didn't want to. I want to emulate the same positive and fun attitude he brought to run practice because I believe that making running as fun as possible while pushing yourself is the best way to train!

I am an avid runner, but it is only one aspect of my athletic interests! I love playing basketball, ping pong, and tennis, and I also enjoy lifting weights and calisthenics. I believe health is a holistic pursuit and that in addition to training hard, one should find a balance between health and other aspects of life!

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

  • Good Fit Guarantee — If your first lesson isn't the right fit, we'll move your lesson credit to a new coach. No hassle.

  • Coach no-shows — You'll be fully credited and we'll help you find a replacement.

  • Flexible credits — Unused lessons last 12 months and can be used with any coach on the platform.
