My coaching style is energetic, player-focused, and built on clear communication

I’m Coach Serena, a senior at SMU studying Sports Management and Applied Physiology with a minor in Corporate Communications. I’ve built my experience through roles with SMU Athletics, the Texas Legends, and the Seattle Storm, where I’ve worked directly in fan engagement, game day operations, and marketing strategy. Through those roles, I’ve learned how to create experiences that connect fans to teams while also understanding the business side of sports. I’m especially interested in athlete marketing and representation, and I’ve been developing skills in partnerships, branding, and NIL strategy through my work with a sports agency. I’m looking for opportunities where I can contribute creatively, build relationships, and help elevate both athletes and organizations in a meaningful way.

About Me:

I’m a senior at SMU studying Sports Management and Applied Physiology with a minor in Corporate Communications, with a strong passion for the business side of sports. I’ve gained hands-on experience working with SMU Athletics, the Texas Legends, and the Seattle Storm, where I’ve been involved in fan engagement, game day operations, and marketing initiatives. With over 10 years of playing basketball and experience coaching youth athletes, I bring both a player’s perspective and a leadership mindset to everything I do. I’m especially interested in athlete marketing, NIL, and brand partnerships, and I’m driven to create opportunities that elevate both athletes and organizations.

How I can help you improve your game:

I help athletes improve their game by focusing on fundamentals, game IQ, and confidence. I break skills down into simple, repeatable steps, create game-like drills, and give clear, honest feedback so players understand not just what to do, but why it works. My goal is to help athletes build confidence, make smarter decisions, and translate their skills directly into game performance.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

A typical training session with me is high-energy, structured, and game-focused. We start with a dynamic warm-up and ball handling to get comfortable and locked in, then move into skill work like shooting, finishing, and footwork with an emphasis on fundamentals. From there, we build into game-like drills that focus on decision-making, pace, and confidence under pressure. I keep the session competitive and engaging, while giving real-time feedback so athletes understand how to apply what they’re learning in actual game situations.

Career summary and accomplishments:

I am a senior at SMU pursuing a degree in Sports Management and Applied Physiology with a minor in Corporate Communications, with a strong focus on the business and marketing side of sports. I have gained hands-on experience with organizations including SMU Athletics, the Texas Legends, and the Seattle Storm, where I have contributed to fan engagement, game day operations, and marketing execution across multiple sports environments. Through my role with a sports agency, I have also developed experience in athlete marketing, brand partnerships, and NIL strategy.

My accomplishments include supporting high-level game day operations, executing in-game promotions that enhance fan experience, and building partnership outreach strategies for professional athletes. With over 10 years of competitive basketball experience and a background in coaching youth athletes, I bring a unique perspective that blends on-court understanding with business strategy. I am driven to create impactful marketing initiatives and meaningful opportunities that elevate both athletes and organizations.

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach I ever had was Allen Tate. He pushed me to be my best every day while always believing in me. He emphasized fundamentals, held me accountable, and helped me understand the game on a deeper level. What stood out most was how he built my confidence and created an environment where I felt supported, challenged, and motivated to keep improving.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

Athletes and parents should know that I bring both experience and intention to every session. With over 10 years of playing basketball and a background working with organizations like the Seattle Storm and Texas Legends, I understand what it takes to develop both skill and confidence. I focus on fundamentals, game IQ, and creating a positive, structured environment where athletes feel supported but also challenged.

I value clear communication, consistency, and building trust with both athletes and parents. My goal is not just short-term improvement, but helping athletes grow their confidence, discipline, and understanding of the game so they can succeed long-term on and off the court.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

  • Good Fit Guarantee — If your first lesson isn't the right fit, we'll move your lesson credit to a new coach. No hassle.
