Athletic Background
Summary of Career and Accomplishments
Actively playing baseball since the age of 6. It's been a family tradition that led me to play at a high level since I was young, not only internationally (representing my country) several times, but also college level at one of the best baseball programs in SoCal. At the age of 19 I became pro, carrying the baton proudly after my father's professional 15-year career. Even though It's been some years since I retired, I've continued to play actively not only to keep my mind and skills ready but also for the love of the game.
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
His name is Pedro Carranza. This coach had so much impact in me for good. This is because he pushed me beyond what I thought was my limits. He saw something special in me when I wasn't mature enough to see it myself. Strengthening my self-confidence that led me to play at a higher and competitive level. Not only skill-wise but also mentally and physically. He taught me how to be in control of my mind during moments of pressure in the game.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
Ive been together with my lovely wife for 17 years. Im a man of values and principals. I'm a firm believer that nothing valuable comes without hard work, dedication and sacrifice. Life itself is a natural balance. Baseball teach us a lot of valuable things that can be applied to life. Not only do I coach to develop skills and abilities for the game, but also, (in my opinion) I focus on the most important aspect of coaching which is; developing their mind, perspective and character on and off the field.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
I became a private coach in 2012, right after I retired from my professional career. I stopped in 2020 due to covid. Today, im looking to get back and help young players excel their game.
How can you help someone improve their game?
My program in only 5 steps.
STEP 1: I revise, analyze and study current players’ skills, abilities and understanding of the game. Also, I analyze the player’s mindset related to the game. This will reveal all important areas of improvement as a whole.
STEP 2: After I’ve analyzed the player and areas of improvement, I create and structure a program tailored to develop areas of opportunity and polish current abilities. Always prioritizing simplicity. This way the player is able to process, understand and implement faster.
STEP 3: We execute training and drills to start gaining confidence with performance. Obtaining confidence is essential during this process. And shouldn’t be overlooked during all sessions of training.
STEP 4: After I notice confidence is rising, I start to implement “mind exercises” to straighten the player’s mindset using scenarios of disaster. This will help to anticipate, be relaxed and ready for any unexpected situations during the game. This is the area where most coaches fail to prepare the player. This game is won more effectively with the mind rather than skills.
STEP 5: After a few sessions, and when necessary, we repeat the process again from step 1 and until the player is ready. Practice and repetition is key for improvement.
My method is simple, easy to implement and improves all aspects of the player (body / mind / spirit).
What does a typical training session look like?
We meet on the field. We talk about their last game or how does the player feel currently feel. We stretch. Warm up. Work on the program during the session. Afterwards I like to interact not only with the player but also with the parents. I like to keep good communication between us all. To know their dreams, goals and expectations is very important to me. Then we schedule the next session.
