As a coach I understand attention to detail is essential to what helps identify key points to elevating your game. Being able to break the game down to level a child can understand is important. Basketball teaches life skills in the real world. Ask yourself how far would you like to go with the training or coaching. If you have aspirations about obtaining that goal… I’m ready to get to work. My methods are sometimes unorthodox but you have to do what nobody else is willing to do to obtain a goal or dream nobody else has accomplished. Set personal goals in your life to win in the real world.

Get to know Coach Kevin

About Me:

Team captain on my high school team for 3 years as the point guard and shooting guard. On the collegiate level I made 1st team all conference, player of the week, and best performance during a jamboree tournament. Also achieved awards and scholarships in the academic field for school loans and grants.

How I can help you improve your game:

A way to help improve a players game is through being honest with the player by

1. Asking what level do they see themselves playing on.

2. Helping them to understand what it takes to get there.

3. Understanding where they are currently as a player.

4. How can they use their skillset to win in life. “Sometimes it has nothing to do with basketball but life skills that will stick with you”

5. Film and study of what to look for as a player. It’s not about changing their game but enhance what they are already good at.

6. Helping them understand the weak points are needed to improve or to disguise them as well as possible.

7. Being able to adapt in different positions. Sometimes you have to step up and be the leader vocally or by example. Other times it requires both.

8. The basics and fundamentals you can never disregard them. It is what makes all professionals at their craft great at what they do. Thats where the confidence comes from.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

Training sessions starts with helping the player recognize what their style of play is and what is needed to improve them mentally and physically. Sometimes it’s about what kind of spirit you have as a player. Our coach used to tell us “you gotta have a dawg in you”.

Lots of conditioning is required simply because you must be able to perform in tough, stressful situations even when tired. Blocking out the outside noise is key. You’ll also have to know your limits and be aware of them in order to push past them. Pressure builds diamonds.

Shooting starts with under the rim form shooting build a core muscle memory and base on the proper mechanics on how to shoot.

Dribbling start with the basics of ball control. Simply being able to bring it up the floor. Pace and control is key for all aspects. Foot work not only applies to offense but defense as well.

Basketball is a game of runs, momentum, and angles.

Career summary and accomplishments:

I’ve been a mentor to several adolescents but never coached. I do understand from school teaching it requires patience to help develop a person in the way they should go but also allow them to figure it out. It’s more so about guidance more than anything. Confidence is key. It’s what comes from hours of practice and attention to detail.

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach I’ve ever had was Francis Flax in Salina, Kansas. A former war veteran brought a militant approach to basketball where each team member mattered. It allowed to realize it’s bigger than the individual accomplishing a task. He created a competitive environment that put you in tough situations that challenged your mind and pushed you to your levels to see who you really are mentally. The boot camp workouts were harder than the actual game play. He was a coach who didn’t sugar coat anything to the parents or players. It also helped that this school was in the middle of nowhere to focus on basketball. He built us into young men who understood real life principles.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I’m very quiet yet passionate about the game of basketball. Playing has moved on from me. However, I do have lots of wisdom to impute into the players who want to be apart of a winners circle in their personal life as well as a team. I also taught reading comprehension K-5 with young men to help develop critical thinking skills. Everyday is a competition with yourself in the mirror and nowhere else. Block out the noise and focus on the long term in every aspect of your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.
