Get to know Coach Mike

About Me:

Even though I grew up in Southern California, I was part of the hockey family, and my personal hockey journey started at the age of 4. I played on the top travel teams, won 4 state championships and went on to playing junior hockey in the EJHL. I was recruited to multiple schools and ended up going to play college hockey at SUNY Plattsburgh. I played 5 years professionally in the Federal Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League and International Hockey League.

After hockey I wanted to stay active and chose to compete professionally in golf for a short time. At my peak I was a +2 handicap. My strength in golf came from hockey. It translated well into driving distance, touch around the green and course management.

For me the biggest difference between hockey and golf is the mental aspect. I had to teach myself what works and what doesn’t for practice and routines.

Post golf I went into custom club fitting and can help with the improvement of equipment knowledge and having the right equipment in the bag.

I have always enjoyed the coaching aspect of both sports and look forward to being a part of your journey.

How I can help you improve your game:

Hockey:

• Develop elite-level stickhandling, shooting, passing, and puck movement skills, with emphasis on situational awareness and game IQ

• Improve position-specific techniques, whether you're a forward or defenseman, and gain insight from a power play specialist with pro-level experience

• Maximize development through off-ice training strategies, perfect for players with limited ice time but high ambition.

Golf:

• Increase driving distance, sharpen touch around the green, and refine course management, all grounded in experience as a +2 handicap

• Start with a playing lesson assessment round to evaluate your game and create a long-term plan for improvement

• Build consistent progress between lessons with daily practice routines tailored to your individual goals and tendencies

What a typical training session looks like with me:

Hockey:

• We’ll start with a quick discussion of your goals and focus areas for the day

• On-ice or off-ice, the session will be high-tempo and skill-specific—working on shooting, passing, stickhandling, positional play, or power play setups, depending on your needs

• Expect detailed feedback and correction in real time, along with drills you can take home to keep progressing between sessions

Golf:

• Each session begins with a brief warm-up and evaluation—we’ll look at your ball flight, swing mechanics, and overall consistency

• We'll focus on a key area (e.g. driving, short game, putting, or course management) based on our long-term plan or what you're struggling with that day

• You’ll leave with actionable feedback, practice drills, and a clear focus for your solo work until the next lesson

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.
