Get to know Coach Matt

About Me:

Hey everyone, my name’s Matt and I’m a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS). In short, this means I know the ins and outs of athletic performance and have it down to a science. I have worked with countless athletes including Centenary University’s volleyball team and a Harvard basketball player; however, I’m not just a coach. I currently pitch for the Hudson Valley Generals, an extremely competitive (AAA) baseball team in the HVNABA men’s league and I compete in strongman competitions all across the USA.

How I can help you improve your game:

Using my knowledge of anatomy and physiology I will be able to improve your speed, agility and stamina for on field performance by teaching proper body mechanics.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

60 minute session:

10 minutes: warmup/communication

40 minutes: speed/agility/plyometric drills

10 minutes: cooldown/ questions

Career summary and accomplishments:

I have been a personal trainer for 8 years and strength and conditioning specialist for 3 years. I trained Centenary University’s volleyball team to their first playoff appearance in school history. I rehabbed a collegiate softball player after an ACL repair, another client who had a double knee replacement, another with a hip replacement and many other chronic/acute injuries. I work with special needs clientele as well as train the general population in strength training. Ive trained strongman and powerlifters, a D1 basketball player, youth athletes as young as 5 years old, and multiple high school sports teams.

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach I ever had is my strongman coach Brett Somerville. He has been a mentor to me the last 4 years and has taught me everything I know about being a strength coach. Working under his expertise allowed me to gain a whole new perspective on how to be a coach, something that textbooks could never. He did it by treating me like an equal, pushing me to try new techniques and teaching me that failing is okay but giving up isn’t.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I don't treat every athlete the same when it comes to how I train them. Every athlete is different and using a one size fits all approach will never allow an athlete to reach his or her full potential. I love questions regarding my methodology and will gladly spend time explaining why I choose specific movements so please never hesitate to ask me questions

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

  • Good Fit Guarantee — If your first lesson isn't the right fit, we'll move your lesson credit to a new coach. No hassle.

  • Easy rescheduling — Cancel or reschedule up to 4 hours before a lesson, no questions asked.

  • Coach no-shows — You'll be fully credited and we'll help you find a replacement.

  • Flexible credits — Unused lessons last 12 months and can be used with any coach on the platform.
