Former collegiate runner & current PT student looking to optimize performance

Hi all, my name is Coach K, and I am a 24 year old former DI collegiate runner with a BS in Health Sciences at Furman University while currently obtaining my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at High Point University. During my gap year between undergrad and PT school, I coached middle school cross country and high school track and field at Brentwood Academy and crafted a Run Club for second graders. I love helping athletes realize their potential and achieve their dreams, with an emphasis on the individuality and mentality of the athlete. I value the individual first over the athlete, but I also want to challenge the athlete to help them transform performance.

About Me:

I have been a distance runner since sixth grade, and I competed in cross country and track and field for four years at Furman University, my main events being the 5k and 10k. After college, I worked as middle school cross country and high school track coach at Brentwood Academy, which I graduated from. I am currently in my second year of physical therapy school at High Point University.

Much of what I’ve learned about coaching has been from challenging coaches who lacked the desire to know the individual as a person before an athlete, and who failed to support the goals and dreams of their athletes. This catapulted my desire to help athletes to prevent that experience by being intentional with all my athletes, promoting the belief in oneself, and also provoking positive thought patterns about their training and racing. I want to teach athletes the love for movement and sport while recognizing it as a gift and challenging the athlete. My focus is endurance, strength, speed, and developing mindset. I am excited to get to know you and work with you!

How I can help you improve your game:

I can help improve your game by addressing gaps in ability, strengthen areas of weakness, and prune strengths to improve performance. As a continuing and developing movement expert, I aim to help prevent injury, but also refine mechanics in regard to running for maximum efficiency and speed. I firmly believe in making the process fun, and this ultimately helps us to continue pursuing our goals even in the midst of a plateau. I want to help you fall in the love with the process—he who knows the why can bear almost any how. I also want to help drive consistency. Consistency overtime helps to build endurance and confidence, but also neural adaptation and muscle memory. Finally, I think it is vital to come to practice with a positive attitude, which I promise to bring to the table with an air of encouragement.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

* A full warmup with drills and stretches

* A run/workout (the main “meat” of the session) *this will differ based on individual and ability

* Potential speed work and skill development

* Cool down

* Refinement drills and/or static stretches/foam roll

* Break it down (discussion + reflection)

Career summary and accomplishments:

Ran cross country and track from sixth grade to all the way through college. Was part of four cross country state championship winning teams and three track and field state championship winning teams in high school at Brentwood Academy.

Two time conference scorer in indoor (mile, 3k) and outdoor track in 2021 (5k, 10k) and conference scorer in outdoor track in 2022 (10k) at Furman University.

Coached middle school girls cross country at Brentwood Academy in 2024. Help lead high school girls track and field team to a regional championship win at Brentwood Academy in 2025.

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach I ever had was the one I had as a senior in high school. Although he had coached me and taught me in middle school, it was his first year as the girls’ head coach after two previous head coaches unexpectedly left. He always continued to support my goals without me having to beg for it, and saw me first as a person rather than an athlete as a number on a page. He always seemed to be able to read my mind, even when I didn’t know how to put my thoughts into words. He actively listened to my concerns, and helped me believe in myself again after years of plateau and disappointment.

Another phenomenal coach I had was in college, who came in half way through my junior year. He was incredible because he really cared about us as people and wanted to accelerate our growth. He was always the uplifting voice on the team, always looking for opportunities to be encouraging. I never left an individual coaches’ meeting without him adding a positive spin. He made sure to acknowledge the pieces we could improve on, but always found multiple positive takeaways. He was always building up, never tearing down.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I love to challenge to help you grow, but I also am a firm believer in making training and reaching for our goals fun and entertaining. It can feel like a grind and uphill battle, but falling in love with the process is just as important. I also value your thoughts and concerns, and would greatly appreciate communication. Additionally, I will respect your time, and I ask that you would also respect mine.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.
