Get to know Kyle

Mental performance coaching for confidence, focus, and consistency.

I help athletes strengthen the mental side of their game so they can perform with more confidence, focus, and consistency. My approach is practical and individualized, helping athletes better understand how they respond to pressure, build routines that support performance, and develop mental skills they can actually use in competition.

About me

I have spent more than 20 years coaching and developing baseball players at the high school, collegiate, summer collegiate, and professional levels. I currently serve as Associate Head Coach, Director of Mental Performance, and Infield Coordinator at the University of Charleston, WV.

I have also spent more than a decade studying, teaching, and applying mental performance. I hold an Masters in Sport Psychology, teach Sport Psychology as an adjunct professor, and am currently a CMPC candidate through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.

My years as a baseball coach have given me a firsthand understanding of what athletes experience in competition. I enjoy helping players understand the mental side of their performance and develop strategies they can actually use when the game gets difficult.

Mental performance coaching can help you better understand what happens between your best performance and the moments when things do not go the way you want them to.

We might work on confidence, focus, preparation, handling pressure, bouncing back after mistakes, developing routines, or another part of the mental game that is affecting your performance. The work will depend on you, because athletes do not all struggle with the same things or respond to the same strategies.

My goal is to help you understand your own performance better and develop mental skills you can use independently in practice and competition.

A session starts with understanding what you are experiencing and what you would like to improve. We may talk through a recent game, a situation that keeps showing up, or something you have noticed about the way you prepare or compete.

From there, we will identify what may be getting in the way and work on strategies that fit you. That could include developing a routine, practicing a mental skill, changing the way you respond after a mistake, or finding a better way to prepare for a situation that creates pressure.

You will leave each session with something practical to work on or pay attention to before we meet again. I want the work we do together to show up where it matters: in practice and competition.

I have more than 20 years of experience coaching and developing baseball players.

I currently serve as Associate Head Coach, Director of Mental Performance, and Infield Coordinator at the University of Charleston, WV. I also serve on the 16U Task Force for USA Baseball, evaluating players for identification, selection, and national team development programs.

My previous experience includes serving as Hitting and Defensive Coach for the Mat-Su Miners in the Alaska Baseball League and managing the professional Colorado Springs Snow Sox, where our expansion team finished its inaugural season 30–16. I also spent nearly a decade as the Head Baseball Coach at Central High School in Keller, Texas.

I hold an M.S. in Sport Psychology, teach Sport Psychology as an adjunct professor at the University of Charleston, and am a CMPC candidate through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. I am also OnBaseU Hitting and Pitching Certified and Driveline Foundations of Pitching Certified.

I am a co-author of Inside the Diamond: A Beginner’s Guide to Baseball’s Mental Game and have presented to coaches through USA Baseball.

The best coaches I have had were the ones who cared enough to be honest with me while also taking the time to teach me.

They did more than point out what I was doing wrong. They helped me understand why something mattered and gave me the opportunity to work through it. They expected a lot, but I knew those expectations came from wanting me to improve.

That has stayed with me throughout my own coaching career. Players deserve honesty and accountability, but they also deserve a coach who is invested in helping them figure out how to get better.

I want athletes to know that mental performance coaching is a collaborative process. I am not going to tell you there is one right way to think or compete. We will work together to understand what helps you perform at your best and what tends to get in the way.

Parents should know that my goal is not to make an athlete dependent on a mental performance coach. I want players to develop greater awareness of themselves and build skills they can eventually use on their own.

I also take the boundaries of mental performance work seriously. Mental performance coaching is not mental health treatment, and if something comes up that falls outside my scope, I will be honest about that and encourage the appropriate support.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

  • Good Fit Guarantee — If your first lesson isn't the right fit, we'll move your lesson credit to a new coach. No hassle.

  • Coach no-shows — You'll be fully credited and we'll help you find a replacement.

  • Flexible credits — Unused lessons last 12 months and can be used with any coach on the platform.

AU was created by former college and pro athletes. We understand the benefits of training with a private coach. It develops discipline, boosts confidence, and provides an undeniable advantage - whether you are just learning the game or looking to earn a college scholarship. All AU coaches are required to pass a thorough onboarding process + background check, so you can trust you're training with the best.
