Former NCAA Division I tennis player helping athletes reach their goals!

Hi! My name is Coach Kaya, and I am a former NCAA Division I tennis player who competed at DePaul University and Duquesne University. During my collegiate career, I served as team captain, earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team honors, achieved a career-high 9.3 UTR in singles, and primarily played #1 doubles and #2 singles while finishing my senior season with a 17–8 singles record. I have also competed professionally in ITF and PTT tournaments, as well as internationally on the ITF Junior Tour. Throughout my career, I earned notable wins against players from Buffalo, West Virginia University, Louisville, and UMass, competed closely with top-level opponents, including players from the University of Virginia, and clinched the deciding match against George Mason at the A10 Conference Tournament to help Duquesne reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2021. I also reached the semifinals of the A10 Masters doubles tournament. Tennis has been my passion since I was 3 years old, and I understand the dedication, discipline, and mindset it takes to compete at a high level. As a coach, my goal is to help players improve technically and mentally while also building confidence and enjoying the process. Whether your goal is improving your UTR, playing college tennis, pursuing professional tennis, or simply becoming more confident on court, I want to help you achieve goals that may once have felt impossible.

Get to know Coach Kaya

About Me:

Hi! I’m Kaya, and tennis has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing when I was 3 years old with the dream of becoming a professional tennis player, and that passion eventually led me to compete internationally, play professional ITF tournaments, and spend five years competing in NCAA Division I tennis at DePaul University and Duquesne University. I also recently finished working as a volunteer assistant coach for Duquesne University's D1 tennis program.

Throughout my career, I’ve experienced both the highs and lows of competitive tennis, which is a huge reason why I love coaching. I understand the pressure players can feel, the work it takes to improve, and how important it is to still enjoy the game while chasing big goals.

How I can help you improve your game:

I can help players improve technically, mentally, and strategically by sharing the experience I gained competing at a high level of tennis. Whether you want to improve consistency, movement, match confidence, shot selection, doubles play, or mental toughness under pressure, I tailor lessons to each player’s goals and level. I also love helping competitive juniors and college-bound players understand what it takes to succeed in high-level match situations.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

- Warm up

- Rallying through the middle, then going cross-court and down the lines

- Consistency

- Points

- Drills

- Serves/returns

It all depends, really, on the individual and what they need to work on the most!

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach I ever had was Rob Budacsek. When I first started training with him, I had athletic ability and passion for the game, but my technique and overall game were not complete. He completely reinvented my game by rebuilding my technique, improving my movement and shot selection, and helping me develop into an all-court player.

More importantly, he helped me believe that my goals were possible. He played a huge role in helping me achieve my goal of playing Division 1 collegiate tennis and always encouraged me to keep pushing myself to higher levels. Beyond the technical and competitive side of tennis, he taught me the importance of discipline, confidence, and enjoying the process of improvement. Honestly, a lot of what I know about coaching and how to connect with players comes from what I learned from him and the environment he created around the sport.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I care a lot about the players I work with, not just as athletes, but as people too. I’m a very empathetic coach, and because I competed at high levels myself, I understand that competitive sports can be difficult not only physically, but mentally as well. I know what pressure, nerves, setbacks, and self-doubt can feel like, and I want players to feel supported while still being challenged to improve.

My coaching style is positive, energetic, and encouraging, while still focusing on hard work and development. I always try to adapt lessons to each player’s goals, level, and personality.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.
