Swim coach focused on technique and confidence, lessons tailored to each athlete

I'm a lifelong swimmer with over 15 years of experience on club teams and swam D3 at Lewis & Clark. I'm a sprint freestyler, who loves being in the water and sharing the joy of swimming with people of all ages. Let's work together to expand your skills!

About me

I recently graduated from Lewis & Clark College, and one of my proudest accomplishments there was being on the varsity swim team all four years. I started swimming in second grade, and have been a competitive swimmer ever since. My senior year at LC, I became the women’s team captain, and I was also a captain in high school. I have a deep love and appreciation for swimming, and my background as the top point earner for the women’s team for two years has given me a lot of background knowledge in what it takes to be a great athlete.

One of my first jobs was coaching for my club team back home in California. I worked as a coach many summers, and gained skills in finding the best approaches for each swimmer to achieve the goals of the program. I have many ways of communicating with kids who are nervous, stubborn, or super energetic. I can coach from on deck or in the pool, and have experience with private lessons and groups as large as 25.

I can help swimmers improve whether they're starting with water safety and the basics, learning the 4 strokes for the first time, or fine tuning technique. I approach each swimmer and lesson from where that swimmer is at, and go from there towards common goals of improving towards their goals.

All lessons will take place at Matt Dishman Community center in NE Portland. I can coach from the deck or in water, whatever the swimmer needs.

We would begin by going over the swimmer's history and experience, and identify what their goals are in the pool, as well as lay out how many lessons we are interested in doing together.

General lesson overview:

Warmup: kicking, pulling, body position drills

Technique: spend time practicing 1-5 drills that address specific aspects of the stroke(s) the swimmer is working on

Putting it together: wrap up the lesson by swimming fully, focusing on the details that were highlighted in the drills

Coach Laura Mitchell taught me how to work really hard, be an excellent teammate and leader, and how to have fun and be proud of who you are through it all.

I use they/them pronouns. I love to laugh and have fun, and nothing motivates me more than seeing swimmers grow in their skills and gain confidence!

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

  • Good Fit Guarantee — If your first lesson isn't the right fit, we'll move your lesson credit to a new coach. No hassle.
