I was a 3-sport athlete in high school lettering in football, basketball, and tennis. I played Div. 3 football and basketball for DePauw University. After college, I continued to play competitively in leagues and tournaments. I am a former Div. 3 football and basketball player that has worked with clients ages 8 and up whose experience varied from brand new to the sport to professional basketball players for the past 16 years. Notable players include Dwight Howard (Orlando, Lakers), Kent Bazemore (Atlanta Hawks and Golden State), Anthony Lamb (Golden State), and Lamonte Turner (University of Tennessee).
"Where the mind goes, the body follows". I am a firm believer that if a person believes they can do something, eventually they will do it or at least attempt it. I specialize in increasing intrinsic confidence by helping clients discover the limiting beliefs that negatively impact how they perform on the court and how they show up in the world. Once we renew the mind through leadership coaching and diligent practice through repetitions, the client begins to experience the reward for hard work. In addition to that, technically I focus on teaching efficient movement, a competitive mindset, and proper mechanics as the framework for improving overall athletic performance and basketball related skills.
With the first couple of minutes, I take the time to connect with my clients to learn what’s going on in their world and how they are doing. We transition into dynamic warm up that is based on their needs (footwork, coordination drills, dynamic stretching, etc.) Once warmed up and ready to go, I tend to only work on one skill set at a time with a goal of adding 2 layers/levels of application of skill that translates into playing in an organized basketball game. For younger clients, sessions may be shortened depending on the attention span of the client. For older, more advanced clients, sessions are a minimum of 1 hour. Depending on depth of training and/or when a client is close to nailing a skill, sessions may go beyond an hour.
My love for the game transitioned into coaching when I was offered my first head basketball coach position at The Ron Clark Academy - a private middle school in Atlanta, Ga. in 2010. In my 7 seasons there, we earned the league championship two times. Following my time there I began training my players individually to get them prepared for the upcoming season. I began earning other clients the more I trained publicly because adults saw how I interacted with my clients during my sessions and inquired about me training their child, so my clientele grew. During 2020, I had the privilege of hosting pre-NBA draft workouts for draft prospects, as well as NBA veterans preparing for the NBA bubble season and overseas leagues. Currently, I am the head boys' JV basketball coach at EF Academy in Pasadena, Ca.
My best coach I ever had was my varsity high school coach, Coach Brewer who still is coaching at my high school to this day! He demonstrated what it looked like to look and be sharp, confident, how to carry myself as a student-athlete, and transformed this shy, nerdy kid into a tenacious competitor. To have him as a head coach for all 4 years was a tremendous blessing for me as a student-athlete and a kid who needed a positive male role model in his life. I've taken what I've learned from him and have molded those characteristics into my passion for developing basketball players and youth in general.
I am a father of 2 young men who attend ArtCenter College of Art and Design and a daughter who is in 8th grade. In addition to being a basketball coach and skills development trainer, I also am an educator and youth development professional. For the past 17 years, it has been my vocation that has allowed me to empower youth from differing ethnic groups and social economic backgrounds through my work in education and the non-profit sector. I enjoy facilitating moments when students and/or athletes realize that what they previously thought they were not able to do, they do and we celebrate that breakthrough, which becomes the catalyst for increasing their confidence to do the things they truly desire to accomplish.

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.
Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.
Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!
We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.
Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.
Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.
The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.
Our coaches are open to helping athletes of any age and skill level. Please message your desired coach to ensure their skillset fits your needs.
