Hi, my name is Mark Wilson. I was raised with a basketball in my hand. I played 4 years of Varsity basketball in High school and played one year of college basketball before hurting my knee, ending my basketball career. My love for basketball lead me to coaching. I was a high school basketball coach for over 20 years. I also ran our community youth basketball program for many years. I believe that teaching athletes the correct fundamentals and techniques of basketball is the most important factor in helping athletes become the best players that they can.

About Me:

As a player I played 4 years of Varsity high school basketball. Named to the league All-star team all 4 years. Named to the NYS Section 3 All-State team for 3 years.

As a Varsity high school basketball coach, I took over a high school program that hadn't won a game in many years. Our first year we went 0-16. Second year 1-15. We worked hard on fundamentals and techniques of basketball. We began playing basketball year around, not just during the season. Soon our program was winning games making the playoffs and, and state Sectionals. We continued hard work, and were one of the top 5 ranked teams in our Section and one of the top 20 teams in New York State. I was choosen coach of the year 4 times.

How I can help you improve your game:

I can definitely help an athlete improve and develop their game. Anyone can coach a player that has all the talent but only a few can actually develop and improve an athletes game. In my 20+ years of coaching Varsity girls high school basketball, I have had the pleasure to develop and improve many athletes game.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

That will depend on what the athlete needs to improve on. We will work on the part/parts of their game that needs improvement. We will do drills, work on game like situations, developing the athletes ability along with their basketball IQ and confidence. I am a very patient coach, if the athlete doesn't get the drills right the first time or second or third time, we will continue to work on it, while doing other drills until the athlete can do all drills fundamentally sound.

Career summary and accomplishments:

I have coached varsity girls high school basketball for over 20 years. When I first started coaching at the high school the basketball program hadn't won a game in many years. I started over with our program, breaking everything down to the basics basketball techniques and fundamentals. It took a few years but we gradually won games and then more games and by the time I retired, we were ranked as one of the top 5 teams in our section and top 20 in New York State. I won coach of the year 4 times during my coaching career. I also ran our community youth basketball program for several years, focusing on teaching the fundamentals and techniques of basketball, as well as helping the athletes develop a basketball IQ.

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach I had was my youth program basketball coach. He was my best coach because he didn't care about if we won or loss, but if we learned the fundamentals of the game. If you learn the fundamentals and techniques of the game and develop an athletes basketball IQ then success in basketball will take care of itself.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I am a father of 7 children, that I have instructed in the fundamentals and techniques of basketball at different levels of the game. I feel that in order to be able to teach the fundamentals of basketball a coach must have patience to teach and the knowledge of basketball. I believe before an athlete can be successful in basketball they need to learn the basic fundamentals and techniques of basketball. They need to develop a basketball IQ. I will work patiently with your athlete on the fundamentals and techniques in all aspects of basketball to give them the opportunity to succeed in becoming the athlete they desire to be.
