18 yrs training, 6 yrs PT experience — bridging rehab and performance.

You deserve more than a generic program. With 18 years of coaching across combat sports, basketball, football, and baseball, plus 6 years of hands-on PT experience, I build training that's smart, sport-specific, and built to keep you performing.

About me

I show up for my athletes the same way I showed up for myself when I was competing — fully invested, paying attention to the small details, and never satisfied with "good enough." Stepping into the ring for Muay Thai taught me what it actually feels like to push your body to its limit, to fight through fatigue, and to trust the people in your corner. That experience shapes how I coach today. I don't just tell athletes what to do; I understand what they're feeling because I've been there.

The six years I spent interning with a physical therapist changed the way I see the human body. I didn't just learn mobility techniques — I learned to really listen to what a body is telling me, to catch small red flags before they turn into real injuries, and to treat every athlete as an individual rather than a program template. That's something I care about deeply: meeting each person where they are, not where a cookie-cutter plan assumes they should be.

Over 18 years, I've had the privilege of working with fighters, boxers, basketball players, football players, and baseball players, and every single one of them has taught me something new. That's what excites me most about this work — I'm still learning, still adapting, and still finding better ways to help athletes move well, perform at their best, and stay in the game they love for longer.

I help athletes improve their game by closing the gap between how you move and how you perform. Most training programs focus purely on strength or conditioning, but if your mobility, movement patterns, or recovery aren't dialed in, you'll hit a ceiling — or worse, get injured. With 18 years of coaching experience and 6 years working directly alongside a physical therapist, I build training programs that address both sides: making you stronger, faster, and more powerful, while also correcting the small movement dysfunctions that hold athletes back or lead to injury.

Having trained fighters, boxers, basketball players, football players, and baseball players, I know how to tailor programming to the specific demands of your sport rather than using a generic template. Whether it's improving explosive power, building durability over a long season, recovering from injury, or fixing movement patterns that are limiting your performance, I create a plan built around your body and your goals — so you can train harder, stay healthier, and perform at your best when it matters most.

A typical session with me starts with a movement assessment — even if it's brief, I'm checking how your body is moving that day, because how you show up can change from one session to the next. From there, we go into mobility and activation work targeted to what you need, whether that's opening up hips for a fighter, stabilizing shoulders for a thrower, or improving ankle mobility for change-of-direction sports. This isn't just a warm-up; it's corrective work built off of what I learned working alongside a physical therapist for 6 years.

Once your body is primed, we move into the strength and performance portion of the session — building power, speed, and sport-specific movement patterns based on your goals and the demands of your sport. I coach every rep closely, correcting form in real time so you're building strength safely instead of reinforcing bad patterns. We finish with recovery-focused work, whether that's targeted mobility, breathwork, or soft tissue techniques, so your body is set up to recover well and come back stronger for the next session.

Every session is built around you — your sport, your current movement limitations, and your performance goals — not a cookie-cutter plan.

I've spent 18 years as a certified personal trainer and certified mobility specialist, with additional certifications in strength & conditioning and pre/postnatal fitness. My training background includes certification through KIME Physical Therapy, where I learned to blend clinical rehabilitation principles with performance training. My path into this field was also shaped by 5 years competing in Muay Thai, which gave me firsthand insight into the physical and mental demands of high-level competition.

Over the course of my career, I've worked with a wide range of athletes — including MMA fighters, boxers, basketball players, football players, and baseball players — building individualized programs that improve performance while reducing injury risk. I run my own training business, where I coach both in-person and virtually, and I also teach a weekly mobility class focused on helping people move better and feel stronger in their day-to-day lives.

Russell Dunning

What athletes and parents should know about me is that I coach the whole person, not just the athlete. Performance matters, but so does how you feel in your body day to day, how you recover, and how you show up long after the season ends. My six years working alongside a physical therapist taught me to look past the surface — to catch the small movement issues before they become bigger problems, so athletes can train hard without sacrificing their long-term health.

Parents should also know that I understand what it means to build a sustainable path in sports, not just a short-term result. Having competed in Muay Thai myself, I know the discipline, patience, and mental toughness it takes to improve — and I bring that same patience to how I coach. I'm not interested in quick fixes or overtraining young athletes; I'm focused on building strength and movement quality the right way, so athletes can keep progressing for years, not just one season.

At the end of the day, I want every athlete I work with — and their families — to feel confident that they're being coached by someone who genuinely cares about their long-term development, not just their next game.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.
