Why Train With Me?

I have traveled all across the US, throughout Europe and Asia and as far as New Zealand teaching the game of basketball over the past 10 years. Throughout my travels I have had the opportunity to play and coach youth basketball players from ages 3 up to semi professional teams. Currently, I run a youth basketball academy in Santa Monica, CA called BTG Basketball and I'm a basketball skills trainer at Crosscourt in downtown LA. I'm a professional basketball player, most recently playing FIBA 3x3 across the USA. Currently, I'm training for the 3x3 season and have a consistent training schedule that I work to develop my skill set weekly. I'm continually finding ways to improve my game, so I can share my knowledge and expertise with athletes I work with. My ongoing training as a player and coach helps me be able to relate with athletes I work with. I have a drive to reach my playing goals, and I can provide an outlook on what it takes to meet their own goals within the game of basketball. My main focus is development and that can entail the mental, physical and emotional progressions an athlete needs. I can help provide a foundation of skill sets so your athlete can enjoy their own basketball journey. Basketball has provided me with many blessings, and I'm looking forward to assisting them in any way I can!

Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
My best coach was my AAU coach growing up as we spent hours together putting in work in the early days of my basketball development. We would head to the park and get shots up, work on various skills that I needed to work on. He was tough on me on the court as he new my aspirations and wanted to challenge me to work to get there. He believed in me and helped me along with my process of reaching my goals. I spent 5 years playing for my AAU coach while I was in highschool. It was during this time when I fell in love with putting in the extra work. I found out that just an hour with him refining my skills wasn't going to cut it. Throughout this time with my coach I was able to develop a work ethic of getting gym early mornings before school, staying late at the gym after school and even traveling around playing pickup wherever I could. Our sessions were the building block and to this day I continue to find ways to get better. I've had other good coaches along the way, but coach Mike was definitely a coach that challenged me to be better and allowed me a chance to grow as an athlete. As I mentioned above basketball development is a journey and in my early days of sport, I found a coach who was present, consistent and passionate. That's exactly what I needed during my early years of being in sports.

Coaching Background

Summary of Coaching Background
Be Different Be Great is my motto for training, as I'm continuously finding ways to train and develop as athletes to be students of the game. I hold sessions for the athletes, in 1 on 1, small group sessions and team training sessions. I work with players of all ages and skill levels, from youth teams to senior experienced players. I train players to develop their overall basketball sense of the game while working with them to develop the correct attitude and effort that is needed to take their game to the next level. I have had the opportunity to coach basketball in Ireland, France, Spain, Thailand, New Zealand, and all across the USA. With that being said, I am open to scheduling training sessions in various parts LA and around the US.
How can you help someone improve their game?
I have the ability to teach all facets of the game from shooting, ball handling, and how to become a scorer. I find out what the athletes goals are and the reasons why they want to play the game of basketball. Taking this approach provides me insight into where they want to go with their game. I have worked with beginner basketball players to college and Ex-NBA players. I have the ability to enhance athletes games from where they are in their basketball development. I can help reform their schedule to insist a quality regimen is set to be successful to meet their goals as well.
What does a typical training session look like?
My training sessions begin with a connecting conversation to find out what an athlete's goals are and how they have currently been playing. I then go into tailoring the session to build that skill that they are looking to develop. I also connect with the athlete to see how their body is feeling to make sure there aren't any injuries we need to be aware of and then we go through a dynamic workout. Most of my sessions began with a ball handling, form shooting or finishing series that they can take with them to practice on their own. Then we progress up from there, adding in different shots off the dribble, scoring from different angles or how to finish around the basket in a variety of ways. I ensure athletes are challenged by learning new skills and efficiently adding quality working reps to their training sessions.
