Dedicated to developing well-rounded players with a strong foundation and a high basketball IQ, fostering success on and off the court.
I focus on building a strong foundation through mastering the fundamentals, as these are essential for success at any level. Whether it’s shooting, ball-handling, footwork, or defensive positioning, I tailor each training session to address the athlete’s specific needs and goals. My unique playing experience transitioning from a post player to a guard allows me to help players develop versatility and improve their basketball IQ, regardless of their position. I also emphasize confidence-building, understanding that growth comes from stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Through constructive feedback, encouragement, and challenging drills, I help athletes push past mental barriers, develop resilience, and believe in their abilities. In addition, I teach players how to analyze the game, anticipate plays, and make smarter decisions on the court. This strategic approach improves their overall performance and allows them to excel in game situations. My ultimate goal is to help players unlock their full potential by equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and mindset to succeed both on and off the court. Together, we’ll work to elevate their game and take it to the next level.
A typical training session begins with a check-in during the warm-up, where we discuss how the athlete is feeling, the goals for the session, and any specific skills they’d like to work on. We then focus on fundamental skill development, tailored to the athlete’s needs, including shooting, ball-handling, footwork, or passing. Game-like drills follow, designed to improve decision-making, court awareness, and basketball IQ in real-game scenarios. Position specific training helps refine skills unique to their role, while conditioning drills build stamina and endurance. The session concludes with a cool-down and review, ensuring the athlete leaves motivated and with clear takeaways for improvement.
My coaching journey began while I was a student-athlete at UTRGV, where I had the opportunity to coach the Vela High School JV team during summer league. Guiding the team through their season, I was proud to lead them to the championship game, an experience that solidified my passion for mentoring and developing young athletes. In addition, I have coached athletes ages 7 and up, both boys and girls, through my work at H7 Athletics. My coaching philosophy centers on the fundamentals, as I believe they are the cornerstone of long-term success in basketball. I focus on helping players build confidence, develop their skills, and enhance their understanding of the game while fostering a supportive and encouraging environment.
The best coach I ever had is a two-way tie because both coaches had such a significant impact on my development as a player and a person. The first is Trivia Corrales, my Varsity High School coach, who played a pivotal role in my transition to the guard position. She invested in me by consistently breaking down film to help me develop my basketball IQ quickly and effectively, while also showing genuine care for me as a person beyond the court. The second is Clarissa Davis, a UT legend, who coached me during AAU. It was an honor to play for someone of her caliber. She pushed me into the point guard role during my first season as a guard and taught me a philosophy that simplified the game, making it more effective for me. Her relentless encouragement to be the best player I could be was transformative. Playing for both of them shaped my approach to basketball and life, leaving an indelible mark on who I am today.
I started playing basketball when I was 8 years old, and it quickly became a central part of my life. Early on, I played as a post player, but going into my junior year of high school, I transitioned into being a guard. This change was challenging and came with a big hit to my confidence. Adjusting to a new position required me to learn new skills, adapt my mindset, and push myself in ways I hadn’t before. Through hard work, perseverance, and a strong belief in my ability to improve, I was able to overcome those challenges and grow into a more versatile and confident player. This experience taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and trusting the process values I now bring into my coaching. I understand firsthand the struggles athletes face when they’re pushed out of their comfort zones, and I work to provide the tools and encouragement they need to thrive. My coaching focuses on mastering the fundamentals, building confidence, and developing the basketball IQ necessary for success at any position. I’m committed to helping athletes grow both on and off the court, creating a supportive environment where they can overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and discover their true potential.
