Athletic Background
Summary of Career and Accomplishments
I started playing ball as a boy in grammar school in Connecticut. I played for my middle school team both years as a starting point guard. In high school, I played four years, two as a Varsity player. However, my most prized memory from high school sports is when I won a State Championship as a soccer player during my senior year.
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
The best teacher and coach I ever had was my father. First and foremost, he raised me to be a man of strong character. Basketball will reveal who you are, and the game is only temporary. Through basketball, my father taught me many lessons in discipline, self-control, preparation, hard work, decision-making, and being a team player. He had a sharp sense of the game and his intricate knowledge of it benefitted me majorly as a player.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I believe anything worth doing is worth doing well. If you are going to commit to getting better, please make sure you are on time, have everything you need, are ready to work, and bring a good attitude. Good things will come if we do the little things right.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
I am a PE teacher at Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County. Last year I was an assistant basketball coach to both the boys and girls middle school teams. This year I am the head coach of the Varsity boys basketball team.
How can you help someone improve their game?
I can help someone improve their game by first watching them perform the fundamentals. Much like a house must be built on a firm foundation, so must our abilities as ball players. I focus on improving the weakest fundamentals and progress from there.
What does a typical training session look like?
I strongly believe that footwork and ballhandling are essential to being an effective player. Working on those skills leads nicely into defensive work and passing. From there, we can work on finishing near the basket, form shooting, and finally some more dynamic shooting exercises to simulate game-like movements and tempo.
