Get to know Coach Alec

About Me:

I have been involved in swimming both as an athlete and coach for over a decade. I swam competitively for four years in high school and two years in college before transitioning into coaching. Over the past nine years, I have worked in aquatics, developing athletes of all levels and helping them reach their full potential. I have coached athletes who have gone on to compete at the next level and have led swimmers to top 16 finishes at CIF. I focus on building strong fundamentals, improving race strategies, and fostering a competitive yet supportive environment that helps swimmers succeed in and out of the water.

How I can help you improve your game:

Improving a swimmer’s performance starts with refining technique, building endurance, and developing smart race strategies. I focus on stroke efficiency, body positioning, and breathing control to maximize speed while conserving energy. Through structured training plans, I target individual weaknesses with tailored drills, incorporating race-pace sets and endurance work to enhance both speed and stamina. Video analysis and real-time feedback help swimmers make immediate adjustments, while dryland training strengthens core stability, flexibility, and power for better starts, turns, and finishes. Beyond physical conditioning, I emphasize mental preparation, race tactics, and confidence-building to ensure swimmers perform at their best in practice and competition.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

A typical training session is structured around the swimmer’s needs, goals, and upcoming competitions, with each workout tailored to maximize progress. Sessions often begin with a dynamic warm-up, including mobility exercises and activation drills to prepare the body for efficient movement in the water. Depending on the focus, the main set may emphasize stroke technique, endurance, speed work, or race strategy. Drills are incorporated to refine mechanics, improve breathing control, and enhance efficiency. If a meet is approaching, workouts shift to race-pace training, starts, turns, and finishes to fine-tune competitive performance. Dryland exercises may also be included to build strength, flexibility, and injury prevention. Every session is designed with a purpose, ensuring swimmers get the most out of their time in the water.

Career summary and accomplishments:

With over 11 years of experience in private swim instruction, I have worked with swimmers of all ages and skill levels, focusing on technique, confidence, and water safety. In addition, I have spent four years coaching summer age group swimming programs, developing young athletes in a structured yet engaging environment. As a high school swim coach for the past four years, I have led competitive teams, emphasizing stroke refinement, endurance training, and race strategy. My coaching experience also extends to high school water polo, where I have spent four seasons building strong, disciplined teams with a focus on teamwork, game IQ, and conditioning. Whether working with beginners or competitive athletes, my approach is centered on developing well-rounded swimmers and fostering a love for the sport.

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach I ever had was my coach at Mt. San Antonio College. They showed me that sports are about more than just the game itself—it’s about growth, discipline, and the lessons that extend far beyond competition. Their approach to coaching wasn’t just about producing results in the pool; it was about developing athletes as individuals, teaching resilience, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. That perspective changed the way I saw sports and ultimately inspired me to become a coach. I wanted to give athletes the same experience—helping them succeed in competition while also seeing the bigger picture of what sports can teach them about life.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

Athletes and parents should know that I’m all in when it comes to coaching. At 28 years old, with a degree from Chico State and years of experience in the water, I’ve spent thousands of hours refining not just my own swimming but the way I teach it. I believe in a balance of hard work and fun—pushing swimmers to be their best while making sure they enjoy the journey. My goal isn’t just fast times; it’s building confidence, resilience, and a love for the sport that lasts beyond the pool. Whether an athlete is here to compete at the next level or just wants to get stronger in the water, I’m committed to helping them reach their goals while keeping things engaging and rewarding.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.
