In addition to stroke correction and technique improvements, we will also build your mental toughness (sports psychology), emotional management and winning strategies. I have learned from and trained with conference champions, national champions, Grand Slam champions and an Olympic gold medalist. Allow me to share the knowledge and wisdom that I have been gifted by tennis legends.

Get to know Coach Forrest

About Me:

I have been playing tennis for 25 years and coaching professionally since 2013. I was a super-champion level junior in the Texas section (USTA) and won 4 HBCU National Championships with the Florida A&M University Men's Tennis Team (2006 - 2010).

How I can help you improve your game:

Many people "play" tennis. I coach my students how to "win" tennis. In addition to stroke correction and technique improvements, we will also build your mental toughness (sports psychology), emotional management /belief / confidence and winning strategies.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

A typical training session would begin with a dynamic stretching warm-up. Next, we would begin rallying mini-tennis from the service line, then from no-person's land, and finally full-court from the base line (For intermediate and advanced players). Then, we target 3 aspects of you game that need the most improvement and dissect any deficiencies with basket-fed drills, live-ball drills, or match play. Despite skill level or playing experience, the serve will always be a focus because it is the most important stroke in tennis but usually the least practiced. Lastly, the return of serve will be highlighted because it is the second most important aspect of tennis.

Career summary and accomplishments:

I began coaching in high school (2002) as a summer volunteer, teaching beginners (Ages 4 - 6) with Kids N' Tennis in Portland, Oregon. After college, I returned to Houston and worked at the Zina Garrison Tennis Academy from June 2012 to December 2015 training junior players alongside Lori McNeil, (French Open mixed-doubles champion) and legendary Master-Professional Coach John Wilkerson. Tennis technique, strategy and court etiquette were taught on the court. In the classroom, life-skills, nutrition and college-prep were the main focus of the lessons. In summer 2016 and 2018, I coached for the Houston Tennis Association and in between that worked at The Grand Sports Club in Spring, Texas training youth tennis players from around the world including four #1 ranked players in their respective countries (Mexico & Cameroon). I then returned to The Zina Garrison Tennis Academy and coached there for almost a year and a half. Since 2019, I have been a private coach and assisted Coach John Wilkerson with his groups until he retired.

Best coach I ever had:

John Wilkerson is the best coach I ever had. He started later than most, picking up a racquet at age 16, but quickly fell in love and went on to win a SWAC championship for TSU and the Men's Open at the ATA National Championship (Earning him a wild card into the U.S. Open). He then went on to coach Zina Garrison & Lori McNeil from beginners to top 10 in the world (WTA). I was fortunate to learn from him as a player but also as a coach, being his apprentice for almost 10 years. He was very kind and generous with sharing his tennis knowledge, experiences and life lessons learned throughout his 50+ year coaching career.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I'm dedicated to improving the quality of life and tennis for each of my students by providing excellent instruction with world-class customer service. My efforts are driven by optimism and enthusiasm, encouraging engagement based on noticeable, positive growth on and off the court.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.

Our coaches are open to helping athletes of any age and skill level. Please message your desired coach to ensure their skillset fits your needs.

AU was created by former collegiate and professional athletes. We understand the benefits of training with a private coach. It develops discipline, boosts confidence, and provides an undeniable advantage - whether you are just learning the game or looking to earn a college scholarship. All AU coaches are required to pass a thorough onboarding process and we proudly showcase a 10% acceptance rate, so you can trust you're training with the best.

At the end of the day, our mission is to provide athletes with better opportunities to succeed through coaching. You won't find a platform, and group of dedicated specialists, more excited to help you achieve your athletic goals!
