Cedrick Wright has built an impressive career in football as both a player and coach. A former 4-star recruit out of Gulliver Prep, he earned over 50 Division 1 scholarship offers before committing to play at Miami University.
After his playing career, Cedrick transitioned into coaching, specializing in defensive backs. He returned to Gulliver Prep High School to help develop young athletes, instilling discipline, technique, and football IQ. He also coached for South Florida Express (SFE), the nation’s top flag football team, working with elite athletes competing at the highest level.
Beyond coaching, Cedrick trained athletes at Stunnas Gym, leading boot camp-style workouts and personal training sessions to improve overall health, strength, and performance. His focus on discipline, accountability, and high-level training has made him a respected mentor, helping young athletes maximize their potential both physically and mentally.
To help someone improve their game, I focus on a few key principles that can elevate their performance both physically and mentally:
1. Fundamentals and Technique: I start by ensuring they have a solid understanding of the basics. Proper form and technique are essential to building skill and avoiding bad habits. I’ll break down the core movements, whether it's footwork, hand placement, or posture, to ensure they’re executing with precision.
2. Mental Toughness and Focus: A big part of improving is developing a strong mindset. I work with athletes on staying focused, staying calm under pressure, and bouncing back from setbacks. Mental resilience is just as important as physical skill, and I help athletes sharpen their focus, discipline, and ability to push through adversity.
3. Accountability and Work Ethic: I emphasize the importance of accountability—taking responsibility for both successes and failures. Consistency and hard work are essential. I make sure athletes understand the value of staying committed to improving, both in training and in everyday habits.
4. Position-Specific Skills: I help athletes hone in on their position’s unique demands. Whether they’re a quarterback, defensive back, or wide receiver, we focus on drills that improve their reaction time, agility, and football IQ specific to their role.
5. Game Preparation and Strategy: I work with athletes on preparing for game situations, including studying opponents, analyzing game film, and understanding strategy. Anticipating plays, reacting quickly, and making smart decisions are key parts of success on the field.
6. Teamwork and Communication: I help athletes understand the importance of being a team player. Success in sports doesn’t just come from individual performance but from the ability to work with teammates, communicate, and understand team dynamics.
A typical training session with me is structured to focus on athletic development, skill refinement, and mental toughness, all while ensuring a high level of engagement and focus. Here’s how it typically breaks down:
1. Warm-up and Mobility (10-15 minutes):
- Dynamic stretches and mobility drills to prepare the body for movement and prevent injury.
- Focus on full-body activation, particularly for key muscle groups needed for the session.
2. Position-Specific Drills (20-25 minutes):
- For football players, this could involve position-specific footwork, reaction drills, or ball-handling exercises.
- I break down individual skills depending on the athlete’s position—whether it’s improving a quarterback’s throwing mechanics or a defensive back’s footwork and coverage techniques.
3. Functional Movement and Strength (20-25 minutes)
- Functional movements that translate to on-field performance, such as agility drills, plyometrics, sprints, and strength-building exercises.
- This part focuses on improving explosiveness, speed, and power, helping athletes increase their athletic capacity.
4. Mental Conditioning and Focus (10 minutes):
- Brief but impactful exercises or discussions on mental toughness—helping athletes develop the right mindset for competition. This may include visualization, staying composed under pressure, or discussing how to handle adversity.
- I often tie this in with game scenarios to help them stay sharp mentally.
5. Teamwork and Communication (10-15 minutes):
- If training with a group, I incorporate teamwork drills that emphasize communication, trust, and collaboration. This could involve practicing defensive schemes, offensive plays, or situational drills.
- For individual athletes, we may do partner drills that simulate game scenarios requiring quick decision-making and communication.
6. Cooldown and Reflection (5-10 minutes):
- Light stretching and flexibility exercises to promote recovery and prevent muscle tightness.
- We also discuss the session’s progress, areas of improvement, and set goals for the next training session. I encourage athletes to reflect on their performance and keep track of their growth.
Cedrick Wright has built a strong coaching background, focusing on developing athletes both on and off the field. After a standout career as a 4-star recruit and Division 1 athlete at Miami University, Cedrick transitioned into coaching, where his expertise and passion for the game have made a lasting impact. He began his coaching journey at Gulliver Prep High School, where he worked with young athletes, specializing in coaching defensive backs. His approach emphasizes discipline, technique, and football IQ, helping athletes elevate their performance and build character. Cedrick also served as a coach for South Florida Express (SFE), the nation's top flag football team, where he worked with elite-level athletes, refining their skills and preparing them for high-stakes competition. His coaching philosophy centers on accountability, teamwork, and mental toughness, principles he instilled during his own playing career under the guidance of Coach Mark Richt.
The best coach I ever had was Mark Richt during my time at Miami University. In just a short period, he instilled a foundation in me that went far beyond football. His old-school approach to discipline, preparation, and accountability truly resonated with me. He wasn’t just about X’s and O’s—he was a God-fearing man who led with integrity and showed me that I could do all things through Christ.
Coach Richt taught my teammates and me a deeper meaning of accountability—not just holding ourselves responsible on the field but in every aspect of life. His emphasis on staying prepared, both mentally and physically, shaped the way I approached the game and my future. He made us understand that football wasn’t just about talent; it was about character, work ethic, and faith. His leadership left a lasting impact on me, and I carry those lessons with me to this day.
Athletes and parents should know that I bring a high-level, disciplined approach to training, built on years of experience as a former 4-star recruit, Division 1 athlete, and elite-level coach. I know firsthand what it takes to compete at the highest level, and I’m committed to helping young athletes maximize their potential—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
I believe in accountability, preparation, and discipline, not just in sports but in life. Every athlete I train will learn the importance of hard work, teamwork, and mental toughness, all while being held to the highest standard. My coaching is not just about improving skills—it’s about developing character, confidence, and a winning mindset that will carry over into everything they do.
Parents can trust that their child will receive structured, top-tier training in an environment that prioritizes growth, respect, and leadership. My goal is to build athletes who not only succeed on the field but become better people off it.
