Former ECNL & Pre-ECNL Coach · USSF "C" Licensed · 15+ years experience

I've spent 15 years in competitive youth soccer, most of it as a director — running Pre-ECNL and ECNL programs, building training curricula, and developing not just players but the coaches who train them. That means when I work with your athlete, I'm not just running drills. I'm evaluating where they actually are, identifying what's holding them back, and building a plan to fix it. My approach comes from the TOVO Institute and Coerver Coaching, both built around the same idea: technical mastery is the foundation of everything. Every session I run is heavy on the ball — passing, receiving, dribbling, and the scanning and awareness that separate good players from great ones. Small groups, high repetitions, real coaching in the moment. But here's what I care about most. I've watched a lot of kids get pushed too hard, too early, and fall out of love with the game. Development is a long process, and confidence is part of it. My sessions are demanding and they're also fun, because players who enjoy training are the ones who keep improving. If your athlete wants to get noticeably better at the things that matter — and wants to enjoy the process — I'd love to work with them.

About me

Soccer has been the throughline of my life for the better part of two decades. I've coached and directed competitive youth programs across the Carolinas — Pre-ECNL Director at Charlotte Independence, ECNL coach at Discoveries, and program director roles before that — and I've also spent time on the other side of the game as a USSF and NISOA referee, which taught me more about reading a match than any coaching course did. I recently relocated to the Wilmington area and I'm excited to keep coaching here. What keeps me in this after all these years is pretty simple: I like watching a kid figure something out. The moment a player finally gets a skill they've been chasing for weeks, and you can see it change how they carry themselves on the field — that's the part I've never gotten tired of. I'm patient, I'm direct, and I've worked with enough players to know that no two of them get there the same way.

The fastest way to improve is to find the specific thing that's holding you back, then attack it with enough repetitions that it becomes automatic. That's how I work. The first session is as much evaluation as training — I want to see how you receive under pressure, which foot you avoid, whether your first touch sets up your next move or kills it, and how much you're actually seeing before the ball arrives. From there we build a plan. If your weak foot is a liability, we fix it. If you're technically sound but always a half-second late reading the game, we work on scanning and decision-making. If you're a younger player still building a foundation, we spend our time on the basics that everything else sits on: clean passing, comfortable receiving, confident dribbling. Small-group and one-on-one training is where real change happens, because you get hundreds of touches instead of a handful and you get corrected in the moment rather than after the fact. I'll also tell you honestly where you stand and what it will take to get where you want to go.

Sessions run about an hour and move fast. We start with a short warm-up on the ball rather than standing around stretching, then move into focused technical work on whatever we're targeting that day — usually two or three progressions that build on each other and get harder as you go. From there we add pressure, because a skill you can only do unopposed isn't a skill yet. We finish with something competitive, whether that's a small-sided game, a one-v-one series, or a finishing challenge. You'll get a lot of touches and I'll coach you through them as they happen, not afterward.

I've spent 15+ years in competitive youth soccer across the Carolinas, most of it in director roles. As Pre-ECNL Director at Charlotte Independence SC, I oversaw eight teams and 100+ families, built the curriculum, and led coaching education. Before that I was Director of Technical Training at Discoveries SC, coaching at the ECNL level. I hold a USSF National "C" License plus TOVO and Coerver diplomas.

I have 2 former players playing with the USYNT. Nine former players are currently in Charlotte FC's Academy. At least 8 former players have played in College. I have also sent at least 25 players to Charlotte FC's Discovery Program.

The best coach that I ever had was Coach Rich. He taught me to appreciate the game in a way that made me fall in love with it. He also helped to give me the belief to approach every game with confidence. Lastly, he taught me the skills that helped to make me successful on the field.

I am direct, but I am caring. I want the best for my players, wherever their starting point may be. Let me help you reach your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.
