Why Train With Me?

Hello! My name is Brandan Garrido, and I have roughly 18 years of basketball experience. I played high school ball at a high level for four years and an additional four years at a Division three school in college. Being a small guard, one thing imperative to succeed was to train hard, but also smart. It allowed me to see the game through a different lens and expand my game to get to college. I am excited to work!

Athletic Background

Summary of Career and Accomplishments
1,500-point scorer in high school. I was also a starter in college my junior and senior years of college. Finished third in assists in my conference during my senior year of college.
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
My high school coach because he did not matter who you were He would give every kid the same time of day and if you were good enough, you would play, no matter the age.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I am an extremely hard worker, especially when it comes to basketball. It taught me discipline in my life, as well as how to manage circumstances outside of it. At the end of the day, the biggest thing I can take away from my basketball experience is to pay it forward. I look forward and have a burning desire to help the younger generation with the knowledge I have gained over the years.

Coaching Background

Summary of Coaching Background
I helped coach AAU over the summers as well as running basketball camps at my college in Birmingham, AL. At the camps, we would host skill training, breakdowns of sets, and coach games to conclude. This gave me experience in order to manage a game, but also put the kids in the best position to succeed.
How can you help someone improve their game?
The way I would do this is to ask them what their strengths and weaknesses are. I would then evaluate for myself after a training or two, then hone in on specific skills that would cater to the court. I played point guard all my life, so taking the experience I have and instilling it into the younger generation would give them a head start that I did not have the luxury of having.
What does a typical training session look like?
To start we would warm up and stretch to get the body ready. Next, we would focus on shooting form as well as touch around the rim. After, ramp it up to game-speed drills, such as dribbling, shooting, and decision-making. In between all of these, when the player is tired, they are required to make free throws before getting a sip of water. Each training would be different drills, but still honing in on those basic skills to make it second nature.
