ALL-AMERICAN & 3 time ALL-SAC shortstop helping athletes sharpen their hitting and defense with college-level precision

Hi, I’m Ben Scartz, former shortstop and team captain at Tusculum University. I bring the same discipline and precision that earned me All-American and 3-time All-SAC honors, a .360 career average, and the title of 'toughest to strike out' in NCAA Division II to every one-on-one session. My coaching focuses exclusively on hitting and defense, blending fun with skill development to keep players engaged while sharpening fundamentals, building consistency, and developing the mental toughness needed to compete at the next level. With a magna cum laude degree in business, I combine athletic excellence with strategic thinking to help young athletes grow into the best players they can be. For any questions or concerns text or call me at 727 453-2792!!

About Me:

I’m someone who leads by example, always pushing myself to work harder and never settle for less than my best. As a player, I was known for my discipline, consistency, and mental toughness—traits that helped me earn All-SAC honors and become one of the toughest hitters to strike out in NCAA Division II. Off the field, I carry that same work ethic and strategic mindset, always looking for ways to improve and help others do the same. I’m committed to excellence in every aspect of my game, and I bring that passion and dedication to everything I do.

How I can help you improve your game:

I use my knowledge and experience as a player and leader to improve a player’s game by focusing on the fundamentals and mental approach that helped me succeed. My time as a shortstop and team captain taught me the importance of consistency, hard work, and a focused mindset. I apply these principles in coaching by breaking down each player’s mechanics, giving them clear steps to improve, and helping them develop the mental toughness needed to overcome challenges. Through personalized drills and game-like scenarios, I teach players how to make adjustments in real time, build confidence, and consistently perform at their best.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

A typical training session starts with a quick warm-up to get the body loose and prepared for the work ahead. From there, I’ll let the player tell me what they want to focus on—whether it’s hitting, defense, or specific skills within those areas. I’ll then assess their current technique and provide immediate feedback.

For hitting, I’ll work with them on their stance, swing mechanics, and pitch recognition. We’ll go through drills that focus on timing, hand-eye coordination, and pitch selection, all while ensuring they maintain good form. If they’re struggling with consistency, I’ll guide them through adjustments in their swing path or approach.

For defense, I’ll work on footwork, glove mechanics, and positioning, helping them improve their range, quickness, and ability to make accurate throws under pressure. We’ll simulate game situations to help them improve decision-making and reactions.

Throughout the session, I emphasize the mental aspect of the game—staying focused, staying positive, and learning how to adjust to challenges on the field. The goal is always to challenge the player while keeping it engaging and fun. We finish with a cool-down and recap, setting goals for the next session based on what we accomplished.

After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.
