Get to know Austin

Helping all athletes build confidence, trust themselves, and compete freely.

I help athletes overcome overthinking, build confidence, navigate injuries, and handle pressure through practical mental skills tailored to their sport and goals. We work through real situations they face in practice and competition, helping them respond to mistakes, trust their preparation, and enjoy playing.

About me

I’m Austin, a mental performance coach. I work with youth, high school, and college athletes who want to feel more confident, manage competitive pressure, and spend less time overthinking their performance.

I’ve played tennis since age five, competed at the collegiate level at Emporia State University, and coached high school tennis and wrestling. As an athlete and coach, I’ve seen how quickly one mistake can turn into several when frustration or doubt takes over. Those experiences shape how I connect with athletes and approach our sessions.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Sport Psychology from Grand Canyon University and am pursuing a master’s degree in Positive Coaching and Athletic Leadership at the University of Missouri.

My sessions are conversational, practical, and built around what’s happening in your sport. We might work through a frustrating game, practice a reset after mistakes, or develop a routine for feeling ready to compete. You’ll have opportunities to try skills during our sessions and put them into practice between meetings.

I want to understand who you are beyond your results and help you pursue your goals while enjoying the sport you’ve worked so hard to play.

We’ll start with the moments in your sport that give you the most trouble. Maybe you play well in practice but tighten up in competition, dwell on mistakes, or feel like you have to be perfect. Understanding what happens in those moments helps us decide what to work on.

Together, we can develop routines for getting ready to compete, practice resetting after mistakes, and make your self-talk more useful when things get difficult. We’ll also work on directing your attention toward what you can control and setting goals that give your training a clear purpose.

You’ll leave sessions with something specific to practice. As you try it in your sport, we’ll discuss what worked, what didn’t, and make adjustments. The goal is to help you trust your preparation and stay involved in the next play, even when the last one didn’t go your way.

A typical session lasts 30–60 minutes depending on age and starts with a check-in about how things have been going in your sport and everyday life. We’ll talk through recent practices or competitions, what went well, and any situations that felt challenging.

From there, we’ll choose a focus for the day. Depending on your needs, we might practice a reset routine, work through your self-talk after a mistake, use visualization, or do an activity that helps you understand how you respond to pressure. Sessions are interactive, with time to ask questions and connect what we’re practicing to situations you actually face.

We’ll finish with a specific skill or action to try before our next meeting. When we meet again, we’ll review your experience and build from there. I come prepared, but leave room to address whatever matters most to you that day.

My background includes collegiate athletics, high school coaching, and mental performance coaching with youth, high school, and college athletes.

As a tennis player at Topeka West High School, I won four regional titles and earned Kansas state tournament finishes of ninth, third, second, and second, including a doubles runner-up finish with my brother. I went on to compete in collegiate tennis at Emporia State University.

My coaching experience includes serving as an assistant tennis coach at Olathe South High School, coaching high school wrestling as an assistant in 2024, and providing private and semi-private tennis instruction.

I became a mental performance coach to help athletes develop confidence, focus, resilience, and practical ways to respond to competitive pressure.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Sport Psychology from Grand Canyon University, am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Positive Coaching and Athletic Leadership at the University of Missouri, and am CPR certified.

The best coach I ever had was my dad, who coached me in tennis at Topeka West High School. Sharing that experience with him and playing doubles with my brother made tennis an important part of my family’s life.

Looking back, what stands out most is how well he knew me as a person, not just as a player. That’s something I carry into my own coaching. I want to understand the athlete in front of me, what matters to them, and how I can help them move forward.

You don’t have to know exactly what you need to work on before meeting with me. It’s okay to start with “I get frustrated” or “I’m not playing like myself.” We’ll ask questions and figure out where to begin together.

I take your goals seriously, and I also care about how you’re experiencing your sport. I encourage honest conversations, welcome questions, and want you to feel comfortable telling me when something isn’t working. We’ll find approaches that make sense for you rather than expecting you to respond the same way as another athlete.

For parents, I want our work to support your athlete’s independence. That means helping them understand their own responses, make decisions, and take ownership of the skills we practice. Progress takes practice and patience, and I value their willingness to learn just as much as their results.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

  • Good Fit Guarantee — If your first lesson isn't the right fit, we'll move your lesson credit to a new coach. No hassle.

  • Easy rescheduling — Cancel or reschedule up to 4 hours before a lesson, no questions asked.

  • Coach no-shows — You'll be fully credited and we'll help you find a replacement.

  • Flexible credits — Unused lessons last 12 months and can be used with any coach on the platform.
