Hi, I'm JT Thomas, currently a rising senior at Denison University studying economics. On Athletes Untapped, I offer personalized training that combines my deep knowledge of the game with a passion for helping athletes improve their skills and achieve their goals. Throughout my sports career, I've experienced tremendous highs and lows, including undergoing surgery and navigating the challenges brought on by the Covid pandemic. These experiences have given me a unique perspective that greatly enhances my coaching. I understand that the mental aspect of sports is just as crucial as the physical, and I emphasize the importance of building confidence as athletes mature. I pride myself on transforming challenges into opportunities and concentrating on what is within your control. My approach is dedicated to fostering growth, building confidence, and enhancing performance in every athlete I coach. With a commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of the game, I strive to inspire and motivate athletes to achieve their best. I will devote myself to providing the best possible coaching experience, ensuring each athlete reaches their full potential both mentally and physically.

Get to know Coach JT

About Me:

I played football and baseball my entire childhood and was selected to the sophomore baseball team as a freshman, then varsity as a sophomore before calling it quits to focus on football despite my love and passion for the game. I played football for 16 years. Played all 4 Years of Loyola Academy Varsity Football and was the starting QB my junior year and was then named captain and remained starter for my senior year. Unfortunately, my senior year was during the pandemic, so we ended up playing a 6-game season in the spring. Despite not technically being able to compete for a state championship, we went 6-0, were the #1 Ranked team in the state to start and finish the year and was very grateful to be named the Most Valuable Offensive Player that year. Received an academic scholarship to play football at Denison University.

How I can help you improve your game:

I can help someone improve their game in a variety of ways, and I will tailor each session depending on the goals and aspirations of the client, helping them improve their game physically and mentally each session. Whether someone is just playing football or baseball for the first time, competing and training to make a varsity spot, or looking to play a collegiate sport, I have been through all the physical and mental training/obstacles and know what it takes.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

A typical training session with me would be around 1 hour, and can look like very differently depending on the client. I will implement physical training, position specific drills, and whiteboard/film work. Once again, this is subject to change depending on age and goals.

Example- Male Age 7 (Baseball)

For someone younger, preaching the fundamentals and giving constant feedback to focus on form and a foundation. Hitting off a tee, slow toss, throwing mechanics, fielding basics etc.

Example- Male Age 13 (Football)

Continue to preach and focus on basics and fundamentals of the game, but the speed and intensity will pick up. It will be tailored to a specific position, and then working off of that. I will also at this age start to help coach clients mentally, preparing them for the inevitable highs and lows of highscool.

Career summary and accomplishments:

Private QB Coach (4 years)- Trained and mentored a couple of local aspiring youth quarterbacks. That training started with the basics of the quarterback position, and eventually evolved to more complex conversations and drills reading coverage and understanding defensive schemes and concepts. COVID Football Camp- During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, a teammate and I took the initiative to found a football camp that prioritized safety while providing an enriching and enjoyable experience for participants. Understanding the importance of physical activity and community during such unprecedented times, we carefully designed the camp to adhere to all health guidelines, ensuring a safe environment for all. Our camp focused on teaching the basics of the game, fostering a love for football, and providing much-needed fun and engagement. By implementing safety protocols and limited group sizes, we could still offer campers a valuable experience, setting them up for a successful transition to middle school or high school.

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach that I have ever had is my 8th grade football coach. Coming up in the program as a fifth grader, he always made an effort to help the entire program, not just his specific team. He preached the fundamentals day in and day out, and how that builds a foundation and is essential for you future. He was a great combination of tough love and motivating, always expecting more from his players, never satisfied. He helped me overcome my surgeries as a young kid, as he himself had a traumatic career ending injury. He made me realize that there will always be a worse situation than the one your find yourself in, so self pity and that victim mentality will get you nowhere. He had an unbelievable knowledge of the game of football, the way it should be played, what it takes to play at the highest level and how to persevere through tough times.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I have had 7 major knee surgeries that kept me out of numerous sports seasons and ultimately ended my football career shorter than I would have liked it to. With that in mind, I have shifted my passion and love for the game to coaching. I have endured every mental and physical battle that a kid might unfortunately go through in their careers, and I want to use my experiences and resilience to help others face these challenges head on. I pride myself in helping kids achieve their goals and make significant improvements in their game, while also teaching valuable lessons along that way that do not just translate to sports, but life in general. I am very passionate about sports and love conveying my knowledge and skills to the younger generation.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.

Our coaches are open to helping athletes of any age and skill level. Please message your desired coach to ensure their skillset fits your needs.
