Athletic Background
Summary of Career and Accomplishments
In high school I was 3x district and regional champion in discus and one year district champion in shot put. I attended the Florida state track and field championship from 7th grade to Junior year because my senior year state track meet was cancelled due to COVID. I placed 7th, 6th, 4th, and 3rd between 8th grade and junior year in discus. I hold the school record at my high school with a throw of 40.10 meters (131’ 8”).
When I was at Harding University I placed in the top 8 at the Great American Conference all four years in discus. My junior and senior year I placed top 8 in hammer. My furthest hammer throw was 44.43 meters (145’ 9”).
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
I am fortunate to have had two great coaches throughout my career. The first is my father, he threw in high school and college. He is the one that taught me for my first couple years and got me started in the sport. The second great coach I had was Andy Vince. He is a well known throwers coach in Florida. He has 40 years of coaching experience and has coached former British olympians. He began to coach me in my high schools year once I became too advanced for my father’s knowledge. I learned so much from Coach Vince and I was very blessed to be taught by one of the best throwing coaches in Florida.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I have had many years of experience with throwing and being around different coaches to be able to learn under their expertise. I am very passionate about this sport and I love working with athletes. I just graduated from Harding University with a Bachelors degree in Sports management and am currently working towards a Masters degree in Sports Administration. My biggest goal in life is to make an impact on the youth through coaching and teaching! I hope to be as good as the coaches I have had and to provide athletes with the opportunities and resources I had.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
When I was a Junior and Senior in high school, I helped my father coach middle schoolers/beginners in discus and shot put. Then in my college years, during summer and spring break, I would go back to Florida and help my father coach his athletes.
How can you help someone improve their game?
Throughout my career I have done a variety of drills, speed work, and strength work that helped myself and other athletes immensely. I would use my personal experiences and what I have been taught to improve other athletes.
What does a typical training session look like?
The training session would depend on the athletes skill level and event they are working on that day. The first thing we would do is warm up. Then start with general drills to warm up. Once we start throwing, we would start with stand throws, half turns, South Africans, and work our way to fulls. During the throwing session, I would point out errors I may see and explain the correct way to fix it. I have a variety of drills for many different technique issues an athlete may need to work on.
