Why Train With Me?

Why train with me? I am a 4 time state champion in polevault, I held the NC state record in 1a outdoor in vault, and I was a part of Swain Count High Schools 10 time (and climbing) running program state win streak. In addition I have competed at Adidas nationals and USATF Junior Olympics. I help coach high school and college athletes, and have worked with coaches all over NC to help myself, and my athletes get better.

Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
The best coach I’ve ever had was coach Keith Payne. He not only had incredible knowledge in all of the jumping events track has to offer, but he had the most heart and enthusiasm I’ve ever seen. What mattered to him wasn’t your performance, what mattered was that you loved your sport. He always said “if an athlete doesn’t like what they’re doing, their body won’t let them do it well”
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I love to have fun! Building technique and skill is so important to me, but I like to do it in a way that is efficient, productive, but also enjoyable!

Coaching Background

Summary of Coaching Background
I have private coached around Asheville for a little bit, and have several athletes that can testify to my coaching ability.
How can you help someone improve their game?
I have a deep understanding of vault and high jump technique, and have seen many different coaches to learn a variety of drills and tactics to improve on pieces of the jump, and the jump as a whole.
What does a typical training session look like?
Warmup, warmup, warmup. I cannot stress this enough. Then move into drills, for a jump, always start with approach drills, then takeoff drills, then “in the air,” followed by finish. moving all over the jump is just confusing for the mind and body. Finally, finish with full jumps to see pieces come together.
