Book Lessons with Coach Adam

Advanced level player. Lifelong athlete. Passionate coach.

Pickleball found me through racquetball, and I fell in love with it immediately. I play 3–5 times a week at an advanced competitive level and have competed in sports my entire life — football, basketball, baseball, and beyond. That athletic background shapes how I coach: I focus on fundamentals, court awareness, and building the kind of confidence that makes the game genuinely fun. I've spent 25+ years in leadership and people-focused roles, and whether I was managing teams or mentoring individuals, the through-line has always been helping people grow. As a husband and father of three, I also understand the youth sports dynamic — the parent, the kid, the pressure, and the joy. I bring patience, energy, and real passion to every lesson.

About Me:

Pickleball isn't just something I play — it's something I love. I'm a competitive 4.3-level player who hits the court 3–5 times a week, and the game has become a genuine passion rooted in a lifetime of competitive sport. I grew up playing football, basketball, and baseball, and came to pickleball through racquetball, which gave me a natural foundation in court movement, angles, and shot-making that I advanced through quickly.

Beyond the sport itself, I've spent 25+ years in leadership, sales, and people-focused roles — always drawn to the work of helping others grow and perform at their best. I'm a husband and father of three, based in Newton, MA, and I've been involved in coaching and mentorship both professionally and personally throughout my life.

What I bring to a lesson is simple: real passion for the game, a competitor's instinct for what works, and the patience and communication skills to meet each player exactly where they are — whether you're just picking up a paddle for the first time or looking to sharpen your game and take it to the next level. I take every session seriously because I know your time matters, and I genuinely love watching players improve.

How I can help you improve your game:

My approach to coaching is built on what actually works — because I've been through the improvement process myself. My love for this game and hunger for competition motivated me to make a significant investment in my own development by working one-on-one with a professional pickleball coach. That experience was transformative, and the lessons I learned — about positioning, strategy, shot selection, and the mental side of the game — directly shape how I teach today.

I know what it feels like to hit a plateau and break through it. I know which fundamentals make the biggest difference and which habits hold players back. That perspective, combined with a lifelong athletic background, allows me to diagnose what's happening quickly and communicate adjustments in a way that actually sticks.

Whether you're brand new to the game or a developing player looking to compete, I'll meet you where you are and build from there. Every lesson is focused, intentional, and tailored to you — because cookie-cutter instruction only gets you so far. I'm genuinely excited to take everything I've gained from my own coaching journey and pour it into helping my students grow. My goal is simple: to give you the same clarity and confidence I found, and help you fall in love with this game the way I have.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

Every session starts with a conversation. Before we pick up a paddle, I want to understand where you are in your game, what you're working on, and what you want to get out of our time together. Whether you're a first-timer or a developing player, that context shapes everything that follows.

From there, we move into a structured warm-up focused on footwork and court movement — the foundation that most players overlook but that separates good players from great ones. We'll work through the core areas of the game: dinking and soft game mechanics, third shot drops, transition zone play, and competitive rally situations depending on your level.

Throughout the session I'm coaching in real time — breaking down what I'm seeing, offering specific adjustments, and explaining the why behind each technique so it stays with you after we leave the court. I draw heavily from my own one-on-one coaching experience, so I know which cues and corrections actually move the needle.

We'll close every session with a review of what we worked on, what to practice on your own, and a clear focus for next time. My goal is that you leave every lesson with not just better mechanics, but a better understanding of the game — and a little more confidence every time you step on the court.

Career summary and accomplishments:

My career has been built around one consistent through-line: helping people perform at their best. Over 25+ years spanning sales, leadership, staffing, and entrepreneurship, I've worked across industries that all demanded the same core skills — building trust quickly, communicating clearly, and bringing out the best in the people around me.

I spent nearly two decades with a large international travel company, where I worked my way through progressive leadership roles curating extraordinary experiences for clients around the world. That chapter taught me how to operate at a high level, manage complex relationships, and deliver results consistently over the long haul.

From there I moved into the staffing and recruiting world, ultimately owning and operating a staffing franchise where I was responsible for building a business from the ground up — client development, team leadership, and everything in between. Most recently I've been working as a Senior Account Executive in professional recruiting, helping companies find the right people and helping candidates find the right fit.

Throughout all of it, sport has never been far from the center of my life. I've competed in football, basketball, baseball, and racquetball, and now pickleball has become my true passion. In my first competitive tournament I partnered up and we fought our way to the championship match, falling just short with a 12-10 loss in what was a hard-fought, closely contested final. That experience only deepened my love for the competitive side of the game — and my commitment to keep improving.

Coaching is the natural intersection of everything I've built — the leadership experience, the people skills, the competitive drive, and a genuine love for this game. I'm not here to go through the motions. I'm here because I care about helping people grow.

Best coach I ever had:

Without question, my high school football coach, Dick Collins of Andover High School. Coach Collins was the kind of figure who leaves a mark on everyone he touches — and I was fortunate enough to be one of them.

His credentials speak for themselves: 37 years as head coach of football and track, Super Bowl championships in 1974 and 1975, 37 Merrimack Valley track titles, Eagle Tribune Coach of the Decade, National High School Track Coach of the Year, and inductions into the Phillips Andover, Massachusetts, and National Halls of Fame. The Andover High School Field House bears his name. By any measure, he was a legend.

But what made Coach Collins truly special wasn't the trophy case — it was the man behind it. He was humble, wise, and fiercely committed to the people in his care. He had a gift for making you believe in yourself without ever making it about him. He deflected praise to his athletes and assistants, and his message was simple and powerful: you will be successful if you refuse to quit.

That lesson has stayed with me my entire life. It shaped how I compete, how I lead, and how I show up for the people counting on me. When I step onto a court to coach, I carry a little bit of Dick Collins with me. My hope is to pass even a fraction of that influence forward to my own students.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I show up prepared, I show up on time, and I show up genuinely invested in your progress. Every lesson gets my full attention — not because it's my job, but because helping someone improve at something they love is something I take personally.

I'm a competitor who has been coached at a high level, so I understand the process from both sides of the net. I know what good instruction feels like, and I hold myself to that standard every time we step on the court together.

For parents: I get it. You're trusting someone with your kid's time, money, and experience. I'm a father of three and I don't take that lightly. I'll communicate clearly, keep things positive and age-appropriate, and make sure your child leaves every session feeling better about their game and themselves.

For athletes: I'll push you, but I'll never lose you. My goal is to make every lesson feel challenging, fun, and worth your time — because if you're not improving and enjoying it, I'm not doing my job.

I'm not here to collect sessions. I'm here to make a difference.
