Athletic Background
Summary of Career and Accomplishments
Olympic Trials finalist in the 1988 Los Angeles Olympics. Traveling member of the singles and doubles Arizona Wildcats Tennis Team from 1984-1988. Ranked #16 in California as a junior and set a record of 21 continuous wins over 3 tournaments in the region. Successfully taught 5 teens higher technique in tennis such that all 5 made their high school tennis team.
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
Tommy Tucker. He has worked with the best in tennis: Roscoe Tanner, Jose Higueras, Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Borris Becker and many others. He taught me how to be a winner and be fearless in the quest to win matches. He said you "have to want to win, even if you are playing your best friend in the quarter finals. Beat him and then buy him a Coke after."
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I am a people person, love helping people become successful players and easy to work with. I am easy going, flexible and yet confident in my tennis and life skills. I don't talk a lot, just say what needs to be said at any given time.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
I coached 5 teens who ended up making their high school tennis team. I also coached wealthy adults in Switzerland back in 1994, successfully getting them to "serve & volley" in doubles, which I feel is a needed element in doubles and they all improved greatly over that summer.
How can you help someone improve their game?
I have insight into various techniques, spin and strategy which many players do not. How? I spent over 20 years daily working on fitness, mental aspects of the game and finding a way to win, even when outmatched in ability.
What does a typical training session look like?
I first start with fundamentals making sure that each stroke, serve and volley technique is correct and efficient. I then move on to Mario, fitness and making sure each player is in good enough shape that they can compete and win in a long 3 set match. I lastly move onto strategy in various points in a match and how to approach the serve and each point to maximize the effort.
