Athletic Background
Summary of Career and Accomplishments
I had the privilege of earning scholarships to play both college basketball and football. After experiencing injuries, I found a new passion and competitive outlet in golf. This led me to participate in numerous amateur events nationwide and compete on professional mini tours in Florida. Recently, my wife, our two children, and I relocated back to Massachusetts, where we continue to embrace our love for the game of golf.
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
I believe that coaching extends beyond athletic performance; it encompasses personal development and character building. This philosophy mirrors that of esteemed coaches like John Wooden, who emphasized qualities such as integrity, teamwork, and personal growth in his "Pyramid of Success."
By prioritizing the holistic development of individuals, we not only foster better athletes but also nurture well-rounded people who can enjoy and excel in the game for many years.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
My coaching philosophy, which emphasizes personal development alongside athletic skill, aligns with the principles of Sports-Based Youth Development (SBYD). SBYD programs focus on using sports as a vehicle to foster positive youth development by prioritizing physical and psychological safety, supportive relationships, and opportunities for personal growth.
Additionally, organizations like the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) advocate for creating positive youth sports environments by training coaches to focus on character development and life skills, ensuring that athletes grow both on and off the field.
By integrating these approaches into coaching, I try to enhance our athletes' performance but also contribute to their overall development as individuals, preparing them for various life challenges beyond sports.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
As mentioned I have 2 kids that play golf as well. I've coached many sports over the years- basketball, baseball, soccer and golf. Golf is my true passion these days and continue to train and learn about my own swing and habits.
How can you help someone improve their game?
I'm a firm believe in learning the basics of set up, grip, aim and posture. From there, we'll start to explore how to hit shots based on the fundamentals. This is when golf becomes very fun! There is no right and / or wrong way to play the game. But a few fundamentals will be the basis of every good players game.
What does a typical training session look like?
Typical session includes learning the 3 functions of the golf swing. Set up, back swing and through swing. The game is very easy when we break it down, it's just a process of knowing the functions, and setting yourself up for success.
