Why We Created Athletes Untapped

Private Track and Field Coaching in Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles has a strong track and field culture, from CIF high school competitions to local running clubs and community track programs. With the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics on the horizon, interest in track and field is building, giving athletes another reason to set new goals and develop their skills. Private coaching helps runners and field athletes work toward those goals with personalized training, whether they want to improve their 100-meter time, build endurance for the 800 meters, refine their hurdle technique, or improve their long jump or throwing mechanics. Across LA, athletes can find training that complements school practices, prepares them for upcoming meets, and fits their individual event and competition schedule.

Inside LA’s Youth Track and Field Community

Youth track and field in Los Angeles includes middle school runners, high school athletes competing in the CIF Southern Section or Los Angeles City Section, and club athletes working toward personal records. Events range from short sprints and relays to distance races, hurdles, high jump, long jump, pole vault, shot put, and discus.

For high school athletes competing in the CIF Southern Section, the official 2026–27 calendar lists February 20, 2027, as the first allowable contest. League competition must conclude by April 30, followed by CIF-SS preliminaries on May 8 and finals on May 15. The Masters Meet is scheduled for May 22, and the CIF State Championship Meet is scheduled for May 28–29, 2027. Dates may be subject to change.

Athletes in the Los Angeles City Section should also check their school’s competition calendar, since the City Section maintains its own schedules and championship dates.

Preparing for LA Track and Field Season

The weeks leading up to the high school season can be a useful time to work on technique, speed, endurance, and event-specific fundamentals. With CIF Southern Section competition beginning February 20, 2027, athletes may use the winter months to prepare for the spring season.

Winter is a great time for Los Angeles athletes to prepare for the upcoming high school track and field season. Before CIF Southern Section competition begins, private coaching can help athletes build speed and endurance, refine event-specific technique, and enter spring practices feeling more confident and prepared.

Track and Field Training Locations in Los Angeles

Los Angeles has several public recreation facilities and bookable athletic venues that athletes may consider for running and track and field training. Private track and field trainers with Athletes Untapped hold training sessions across LA. Some of the locations our track and field coaches use include South Bay Athletic Club, Mar Vista Recreation Center, Harvard Park, and many others.

The best location depends on the athlete’s event. A running track can support sprint work, intervals, and pacing drills, while hurdles, jumping, and throwing events may require specialized equipment and a facility that permits its use.

Families can also explore private track and field coaching in Irvine and Rancho Cucamonga for additional options elsewhere in Southern California.
