Athletes Untapped does not provide insurance coverage for its coaches. It is recommended that coaches maintain adequate insurance policies. Here’s a deeper explanation:
Why we recommend obtaining insurance
It’s a good idea to have insurance in place that’s enough to protect yourself. This helps cover any losses that could happen because of your actions or mistakes. While Athletes Untapped doesn’t require you to have insurance, we highly recommend you maintain coverage to keep things safe for everyone involved.
Understanding insurance options
A lot of Athletes Untapped coaches go through USA Sports insurance. They offer great coverage for private coaches across various sports. For reference, here’s the link to insurance for basketball coaches: https://www.usab.com/coaching/coach-license/coach-license-insurance
Confirming for coaches: this is a 1099, not W2, position
Just to be clear, you won’t be eligible for any benefits like vacation, group health insurance, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, or any other perks that the company offers its employees. The company also isn’t responsible for handling any taxes like income, payroll, Social Security, or other federal, state, or local taxes, nor for making any insurance contributions (like for unemployment or disability) or getting workers’ comp for you. You’ll be responsible for managing all those taxes and contributions yourself, and you’ll need to cover any penalties or interest that might come up.For more information on becoming a coach, visit this article.
