Former D1 athlete coaching football & lacrosse:IQ, fundamentals, next-level prep

I coach football and lacrosse athletes who want to level up and play at the next level. My training builds a complete athlete: fundamentals, speed/agility mechanics, game IQ, and confidence. I teach in a simple, efficient way that athletes actually understand, backed by D1 experience at Yale.

Get to know Coach Spencer

About Me:

I’m Spencer, born and raised in Reston, VA, and I train athletes across the DMV (primarily Northern VA). I competed in football and lacrosse at the Division 1 level at Yale and understand what it takes to improve, stand out, and prepare for the next level. I coach because I genuinely enjoy helping athletes build confidence, learn the game, and use their strengths to play faster and smarter.

How I can help you improve your game:

I help athletes improve by focusing on fundamentals/technique, speed and agility mechanics, and game IQ/decision-making. Most athletes I work with struggle with inefficient movement mechanics, low confidence, and a lack of understanding of how to manipulate the game in their favor. In the first 1–2 weeks, we clean up the basics: footwork, body positioning, and core mechanics, so everything else improves faster. By sessions 4–6, athletes move more fluidly, waste less motion, and play with more confidence and clarity.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

Most sessions are 60 minutes (can accommodate 75 or 90 minutes) and run as a hybrid of skill work + athletic development. We start with a dynamic warm-up, activation, and footwork work (ladder and movement prep). Then we shift into focused skill reps and position-specific coaching, with constant feedback and simple teaching cues. We finish with a high-tempo drill (5–10 quality reps) to train execution under fatigue. I also give optional homework—short videos to study and simple at-home drills to lock in the basics.

Career summary and accomplishments:

I played football and lacrosse at the Division 1 level at Yale and trained for an NFL Pro Day. In football, I played RB/WR, and in lacrosse, I played LSM/midfield/defense. Highlights include 3 Ivy League football championships, All-Met and All-State honors in football and lacrosse, two-sport 4-year varsity starter, Ivy League Rookie of the Week, and the New England Football Writers’ Gold Helmet Award. I have 3 years of private training experience and have coached ages 6–18 through camps, clinics, clubs, and school programs (including South Lakes HS and Redwings Lacrosse Club).

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach I ever had was my high school football coach (Trey Taylor). He was consistent, supportive, and honest—he told you the truth while still believing in you. I’ve carried that into my own coaching by being athlete-first: high standards, clear teaching, and real encouragement.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

My non-negotiables are coachability, attitude, and effort. I communicate clearly with athletes and parents through text updates, and I can provide written progress notes if needed. I prioritize safe training and long-term development—many injuries come from poor mechanics and wasted movement, so we focus on learning how to move and train like an athlete. My promise is simple: if you show up coachable and consistent, you’ll see measurable improvement in fundamentals, confidence, and how you understand and play the game.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you find yourself needing to cancel or adjust your booking within 24 hours of your purchase, just let us know. We'll provide a refund - no questions asked. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we're here to support your learning journey.

It develops discipline, boosts confidence, and provides an undeniable advantage - whether you are just learning the game or looking to earn a college scholarship. All AU coaches are required to pass a thorough onboarding process and we proudly showcase a 10% acceptance rate, so you can trust you're training with the best.
