Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
Derek Thompson would probably be the best coach I ever had. He was my first coach as a professional runner, and I achieved my highest accomplishments training under him. He brings a great deal of experience to the table and his accolades with the athletes he trained is nothing less than phenomenal. He trained world class 800 meter runners like Ajee Wilson (personal best of 1:55) and Charlene Lipsey (personal best of 1:57) who qualified for numerous USA teams. Even to this day I benefit from him, but as a coach. I've taken a page or two from Derek's coaching style and had great success as a coach because of it.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
My path leading to what I achieved to this point definitely came from the "underdog" mentality, due my unconventional path. I wasn't highly recruited coming out of high school, but I never let that stop me from pursuing my dreams. It took 3 different colleges for me to drop my time down to a 1:48 in the 800m. After this, I tried to pursue a professional career and became highly successful my first year. I ended up dropping my time down to a 1:46 and had the honor to represent and compete for my country. Because of this unconventional path, I developed a lot of applicable skills that would make me a great coach. Examples of these skills would be passion, grit, attention to detail, and being highly adaptive meaning I can make the proper adjustments when needed.

How can you help someone improve their game?
In a variety of ways! We can improve mechanics by doing various drills to help form, we can improve endurance by doing extensive/aerobic workouts, we can improve speed by doing sprints/drills/explosive exercises, we can improve speed endurance by doing intensive/anaerobic workouts, we can improve the ability to prevent injury by going over proper warmups and cool downs, and we can also improve their mentality by simply teaching and articulating the game.
What does a typical training session look like?
It all depends on exactly what we're trying to achieve. After proper consultation, a typical session will consist of a proper warmup (activation, jogging, moving stretches, drills, etc.). This is followed by either an extensive workout, intensive workout, or a speed workout. Then we will follow up with a proper cool down (jogging, mobility, static/dynamic stretches). Potentially, we will add a strength session at the end depending on the client's goals (explosive work or muscle endurance).
