Get to know Coach Art

About Me:

Notre Dame High School-Sherman Oaks, Calif.

Played 4 years of Varsity High School-Two under acclaimed coach Brian Beauchemin. Coach Beau who also coached at Glendale Community College is one of the most accomplished coaches in the community college system. The GCC-Vaqueros court was recently named after him due to his winning record and player development methods. I was privy those techniques that Coach Beau learned from the greats like Coach John Wooden and Laker player coach Jerry West who won many championships with the Lakers and Golden State Warriors. He was responsible for drafting Kobe Bryant and negotiating the acquisition of Shaquille O'Neal.

Attended player symposiums and camps at the University of Southern California.

Played two years in the A level adult league of West L.A.

Assisted Notre Dame JV and Varsity coach Charlie Perkins' with implementing strategies and drills. Coach Perkins has coached many prep and college stars.

How I can help you improve your game:

I will asses a players' skills by noting for example left and right hand dexterity, shooting technique, footwork, basic understanding of commands, interaction with fellow athletes, etc. I will give confidence to an athlete by having him or her lead and then praise them when appropriate. I am building a foundation.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

-Shootaround

-Gather players and talk about what we want to accomplish at practice and ask players what individually they want to work on-hands together and motto for the day (i.e. Focus, Teamwork, Winning, etc.)

-Stretching, squating, running in place, jumping in place, imaginary jump shots, fake drives and then set, offensive rebounding with twisting and then put-back, defensive rebounding, rotating and then fake outlet from both sides of the court, bounce pass and then over head outlet, defensive sliding across the court from key to sideline and back

- Change of pace forward running full court, quick stop and start jump stops full court, defensive sliding-positioning hands in an appropriate hand up and one hand up-playing defense against a left hand dominant dribbler and a right hand dominant dribbler, backpedaling to the right and to the left-one on one with ball and without -player vs player

-Dribbling-right handed half court and then left handed half court-right hand full court and then left hand full court, then rotate from right hand to left hand-emphasize slow and then quit dribble -speed-sprint, control and maneuvering

-Rebound off of board-turn and outlet on left side and then right side-outlet to man from key over

-Layups right side and then left side-use left hand and right hand

-Jump shooting/jump shot-from baseline, 1/4, elbow, free throw line, 1/4 and then baseline

-Use the board-jump shot from left and right side

-Fake the drive and pull up-left side from elbow and then right side from elbow

-3 on two working from 15 feet in

-Throw to wing and cut for a layup-work left side and right side

-3 on three scrimmage until they are ready to go full court

-Run around the court three times

-Run three sets of full court lines/suicides and then make 5 free throw in a row and if not run two sets of lines and then shoot and try and make 3 free throws and then one more line and then make one more free throw

CLOSE-all players in and then recite opening Motto

Career summary and accomplishments:

Assisted Notre Dame coach Charlie Perkins with in depth strategy and drills. Coach Perkins has coached many prep and college stars. Spearheaded drills for Coach Perkins.

Best coach I ever had:

Coach Beauchemin-Notre Dame High School-he was just what I needed in my life. Great at the details and very in tune with me as a person. He cared and eventually it shows on the court and in life.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I am fair. I believe teammates and opposing players should respect each other. Be competitive but be respectful. I believe basketball players should be in good shape first and foremost. Parents should know that I believe that although techniques and drills are universal not all athletes are the same and that is key to knowing what will make them the best of who they are. I like getting the opinion of my players, it important to their growth and maturity. Also, I speak Spanish fluently so if you want that in your training for your child you can have that too!! Lastly, I like to video my athletes because I want to demonstrate to them or show them what they have done right and what they need to work on.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.

Our coaches are open to helping athletes of any age and skill level. Please message your desired coach to ensure their skillset fits your needs.

AU was created by former collegiate and professional athletes. We understand the benefits of training with a private coach. It develops discipline, boosts confidence, and provides an undeniable advantage - whether you are just learning the game or looking to earn a college scholarship. All AU coaches are required to pass a thorough onboarding process and we proudly showcase a 10% acceptance rate, so you can trust you're training with the best.

At the end of the day, our mission is to provide athletes with better opportunities to succeed through coaching. You won't find a platform, and group of dedicated specialists, more excited to help you achieve your athletic goals!
