Get to know Coach Monica

About Me:

I have an extensive background in softball, having played varsity throughout middle and high school, followed by participation in a local travel team post-graduation. After college, I transitioned into coaching as an assistant for Long Island Rage, working with 12-year-old players and helping them develop their skills and passion for the game. In addition to coaching, I continue to play in an adults Co-Ed slow pitch softball team called the One Hit Wonders. My career reflects not only a love for playing the sport but also a commitment to mentoring the next generation of athletes, guiding them toward success both on and off the field. Through my experience, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the game, advanced technical skills, and a passion for fostering growth in young players.

How I can help you improve your game:

I help players improve their game by focusing on both fundamentals and personalized development. Through detailed drills, like fielding grounders, throwing with proper mechanics, and live batting practice, I help athletes strengthen key skills. I break down complex movements, provide targeted feedback, and work on areas that need improvement, whether it’s increasing accuracy, refining hitting technique, or sharpening base-running instincts. Each session is designed to build confidence and push players out of their comfort zones in a supportive way. My goal is to make them better, smarter athletes with a deeper understanding and love for the game!

What a typical training session looks like with me:

Here’s an example of a two-hour private coaching session at a local park:

### **Session Outline:**

**First 10 minutes – Warm-up and Stretching**

We'll start with a light jog around the park to get the blood flowing, followed by dynamic stretches focused on loosening up the shoulders, hips, and legs. This helps prevent injury and prepares the body for physical activity.

**Next 20 minutes – Throwing and Catching Fundamentals**

We’ll spend time on the basics: throwing mechanics and catching technique. I’ll have her practice wrist snaps, footwork, and accuracy with short-distance throws, gradually increasing the distance. If she struggles with specific areas (like a sidearm throw), we’ll break down the motions and practice slowly.

**Next 30 minutes – Fielding Drills**

We’ll work on grounders, fly balls, and reaction times. I'll hit a variety of ground balls from different positions (shortstop, second base) to improve her footwork and glove placement. We’ll also focus on charging slow rollers and throwing on the run. For fly balls, we’ll focus on tracking the ball, getting under it, and making strong, accurate throws to the infield.

**15 minutes – Hitting Fundamentals**

I’ll go over her stance, grip, and swing mechanics, making adjustments as needed. Then we’ll move to soft toss or hit off a tee to reinforce proper hand-eye coordination, keeping her weight balanced, and using her lower body to generate power. I’ll give feedback after each set of swings.

**Next 15 minutes – Batting Practice**

We’ll do some live batting practice where I’ll pitch from various distances and speeds, simulating real game scenarios. She’ll focus on pitch recognition, timing, and making solid contact.

**Next 15 minutes – Base Running Skills**

We’ll work on sprinting out of the batter’s box, rounding the bases, and sliding. I'll emphasize aggressive, smart base running—teaching her to read the ball and make decisions quickly.

**Last 15 minutes – Cool Down and Review**

We’ll cool down with a light jog and stretches. I’ll provide a brief recap of the session, discussing her strengths, areas for improvement, and set goals for the next practice. I’ll also give her specific drills or exercises to work on independently until our next session.

**Focus Points:**

- Reinforce fundamentals in a relaxed but challenging environment

- Build confidence through individualized feedback and positive reinforcement

- Keep the session fun and engaging while pushing her to improve

Career summary and accomplishments:

Although I am new to Athletes Untapped, I am far from new to softball and mentoring. I have a solid foundation in the sport, having played varsity softball throughout middle and high school, as well as on a local travel team after graduation. My coaching journey began when I served as an assistant coach for a team of 12-year-olds with Long Island Rage, where I focused on skill development and fostering a love for the game. Currently, I play on a Co-Ed slow pitch softball team, which keeps my passion for the sport alive. My diverse experience in both playing and coaching equips me to effectively mentor young athletes, guiding them in their development both on and off the field.

Best coach I ever had:

Each coach I’ve had brought unique qualities and valuable lessons, making it difficult to choose just one as the best. One coach focused on discipline and technique, pushing me to perfect my mechanics and stay focused. Another emphasized teamwork and communication, teaching me how to support and lead on the field. A third coach fostered my love for the game by keeping practices fun and encouraging me to stay positive, even during tough times. Each of these coaches had different approaches, but together they molded my athleticism and shaped who I am as a player and now as a coach.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

Athletes and parents should know that I’m deeply passionate about softball and dedicated to helping each player reach their full potential. I believe in creating a positive, encouraging environment where athletes can build confidence, develop their skills, and most importantly, have fun while learning. I focus on individual growth and tailor my approach to each player’s unique strengths and areas for improvement. I want every athlete to walk away from our sessions not only as a better player but with a genuine love for the game. I'm here to support and inspire them every step of the way!

After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.
