I started playing basketball when I was four years old, and since then, I have gained a lot of experience in a variety of competitive settings, from youth leagues to high school sports. Despite not playing professionally or at the collegiate level, I have had the good fortune to learn from renowned coaches with NBA and international experience. I've coached at Royal Basketball School, Up Next Basketball Academy, and West Coast Tigers Basketball, among other places. I've designed programs to accommodate a range of age groups, which has helped me become an expert at engaging kids from 4 to 14 years old. One of my most noteworthy achievements is the development and implementation of a thorough basketball skills program that is carefully tailored to each player's abilities and needs. Beyond only helping kids improve their athletic abilities, my strategy places a high value on creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that helps them become confident individuals and cohesive teams.

Get to know Coach Kayson

About Me:

I've had the opportunity to play basketball since I was 4 years old. I have taken part in courtside hoops and first-step AAU tournaments. At places like Taft Charter High School and Ivy Academia, I played athletics. I have participated in several games at YMCAs and parks and recreation centers during the winter and summer. I've also taken part in a ton of tournaments, including a 3-on-3 game with the Boys & Girls Club West Valley. Despite the fact that I have never played at the collegiate or professional level, I am thankful to have worked with coaches who have played in the NBA and overseas.

How I can help you improve your game:

If players have specific areas they would like to improve—such as shooting, defense, or rebounding—I will take at least a month to offer them individualized instruction. This entails using a variety of drills that are intended to focus on the areas that have been identified as needing development. By tailoring the training program to each person's goals, I guarantee a thorough approach to skill development. In order to promote ongoing development, regular technique review and improvement are essential parts of the coaching process. By using this committed and individualized method, I want to assist athletes in reaching their targeted skill improvements.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

Your child's basketball abilities will improve thanks to a practice I've developed. whether it's passing the ball, grabbing rebounds, shooting, making layups, pivoting, jabbing, etc. Before the start of practice, I also use equipment like ladders, hurdles, and jump ropes to perform regular workouts. Depending on their age, I have them perform a routine that includes running and shooting free throws after their workout. Following free throws, I instruct them in a series of activities that will either inform them of the rules of the game or help them develop better habits.

Career summary and accomplishments:

I have had the privilege of working with students at Royal Basketball School, Up Next Basketball Academy, and West Coast Tigers Basketball, where I led coaching sessions for children across various age groups while in college. With six years of experience, I am highly skilled in working with children ages 4 to 14 by teaching a variety of drills. One of my primary achievements was the development and implementation of a core basketball skills program that catered to the individual needs and skill levels of the students. More than just focusing on athletic development, I always strived to create a supportive and inspiring atmosphere that boosted self-confidence and collaboration among my students.

Best coach I ever had:

Though I am appreciative of the amazing instructors I have had during my basketball career, I sincerely recognize my father as my best teacher. He encouraged my passion for the game from the beginning, leading our at-home practice sessions. Every season, his coaching has been a consistent presence in YMCA programs and recreation facilities. Despite taking cues from other coaches, he has developed a distinct coaching style of his own. I am very grateful for his consistent support, which is exemplified by his presence at every practice and game, no matter the level.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

Along with my love of basketball, I have developed a strong interest in music and have spent almost 20 years perfecting my guitar and bass playing. In addition to my artistic endeavors, I derive great pleasure from debating many aspects of pop culture and appreciating its multiplicity of expressions. Keeping a "kid at heart" mindset, I treasure the pursuits and interests that have delighted me since I was a little child and have helped me feel a sense of inner connection. Through my diverse life experiences, I am able to provide a wealth of viewpoints and experiences to my contacts with parents and athletes, resulting in real ties based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.
