Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
The best coach I ever had was Jason Trip. He was challenging but supportive at the same time, which made all the difference in my development. He had a remarkable ability to read players and give them the feedback they needed to hear, even when it was tough. His balance of challenge and support helped me grow not only as an athlete but as a person. Jason taught me that true growth comes from being pushed outside of your comfort zone, but also having someone who believes in you every step of the way.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
Athletes and parents should know that I am a very supportive coach, but I don’t sugarcoat things. I make observations that will change the game, and I’m not afraid to challenge players in ways that will help them grow. I get creative with teaching skills, tailoring my approach to fit each player’s unique learning style. I believe mindset work is just as important as technique, and I dedicate a lot of time to working on the foundations to set athletes up for long-term success. My goal is to help each athlete not just improve their skills, but also build the mental resilience needed to thrive both on and off the court.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
I played volleyball throughout high school for Mountain View High School in a very competitive league and for City Beach Volleyball Club in Santa Clara, starting as a setter in JV, right side in Varsity, and outside in Club. When I got to college, I played Libero, which helped me develop a diverse skill set. I've coached for many high school and club teams around the Bay Area.
How can you help someone improve their game?
I help athletes improve by focusing on both skills and mindset. I build a strong foundation across all areas of the game, tailoring training to each player’s learning style. My goal is to make them as well-rounded as possible, drawing from my experience in various positions to help them develop the skills and mental resilience needed to excel.
What does a typical training session look like?
A typical training session starts with me asking the athlete what they’d like to focus on and what they want to walk away with. I believe setting an intention at the beginning is key. I offer both in-person training on the volleyball court and virtual sessions to work on mindset and confidence. Each session lasts an hour, with a balance of skill development and mental training to ensure the athlete is well-rounded in both aspects.
Based on court availability, I offer both indoor and outdoor lessons. Outdoor lessons can be arranged at any park, and I provide a grass net along with volleyballs.
