Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
The best coach I ever had was my first boxing coach, Rich Maracina. He truly believed in me and taught me the fundamentals and techniques of the sport. He helped me realize that my mindset and work ethic were on a different level than others. When I purchased a book on gaining the mental edge as an athlete, he took one look at it, threw it in the garbage, and said, “Jamie, you can write the book. You are living proof of a winning mindset.” Our time together was filled with hundreds, if not thousands, of painstaking hours in the gym, and we became like family in the process. To this day (almost 30 years), he remains in my corner, both in the ring and in life.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
Athletes and parents should know that I bring a wealth of real-life experiences in both sports and life that I can share to help individuals become the best versions of themselves. Coaching and inspiring others is my true passion. I believe in meeting people where they are and elevating them through motivation and hard work. My clients often say that they never feel like just a number; instead, they feel like family. I am dedicated to creating a supportive and nurturing environment where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential.

Coaching Background

Summary of Coaching Background
Coaching is second nature to me, and I have been guiding individuals both in and out of the ring for nearly 30 years. I’ve trained professional and amateur fighters, working closely with them on a daily basis and supporting them in their corners during competitions. My experience coaching youth sports teams has taught me invaluable lessons, particularly that kids want to learn and have fun, and that navigating the expectations of parents can be just as important as developing the athletes themselves. Additionally, I’ve worked with non-fighters who have faced significant life challenges, such as divorces, job losses, and weight loss journeys. Through these experiences, my clients have learned that perseverance and hard work can help them overcome any obstacle. My coaching approach is rooted in empathy and understanding, and I strive to empower everyone I work with to achieve their goals, both in sports and in life.
How can you help someone improve their game?
I always say that boxing is the best cross-training for any sport. It instills a level of mental discipline that can push you beyond what you thought possible. Whether we’re connecting over Zoom to discuss strategies or working out together in person, my focus is on helping you elevate your game. Together, we’ll identify your strengths and areas for growth, and I’ll provide the support and guidance you need to reach the next level. Achieving your goals is our common objective, and I’m here to help you every step of the way.
What does a typical training session look like?
In-Person Sessions: Our in-person workouts are dynamic and structured to ensure a comprehensive training experience. Each session typically includes: - Jump Rope: To build agility, coordination, and endurance. - Shadow Boxing: To refine technique, improve footwork, and enhance overall movement. - Mitt Work: To develop precision, timing, and reaction skills with real-time feedback. - Bag Work: To increase power and stamina while practicing combinations. - Strength and Conditioning: Targeting overall fitness, which is crucial for performance in any sport. Throughout the session, we will engage in discussions that allow me to learn more about you—your strengths, challenges, and aspirations. This understanding is key to creating a personalized workout plan that meets your specific needs. Depending on your focus areas, we might also allocate a few extra minutes before or after our session to discuss tasks and set goals for our next meeting. Zoom Sessions: In our virtual sessions, I focus on providing in-depth discussions and mentoring. Each Zoom meeting typically involves: - Inspiration and Encouragement: Motivating you to push through challenges and stay committed to your goals. - Task Design and Goal Setting: Collaboratively creating actionable tasks and setting measurable goals between sessions to keep you on track. - Training Program Integration: Depending on your needs, we can work through a structured training program or engage in a workout session together over Zoom, ensuring you remain active and focused. Whether in person or online, my aim is to provide a supportive and motivating environment that fosters growth and helps you excel in your game.
