About Me:

Malachi Barendilla has had a distinguished career in track and field, marked by numerous achievements and accolades. He is a 2x All-State athlete, 4x All-Conference honoree, 4x All-District performer, and 2x All-Region selection. His dedication to both athletics and academics is evident, earning All-Academic recognition. As a member of the 4x200m relay team, Malachi is a proud record holder for Lincoln Ypsilanti. He has also been named Most Valuable Player, Most Improved, and received the Sportsmanship Award, reflecting his outstanding performance, growth, and character on and off the track. He now competes at the Collegiate Level and finished his first year at Western Illinois University ranked top 10 in the 100m and 200m dash and now will continue his career at the University of North Texas this upcoming Fall.

How I can help you improve your game:

To effectively help someone improve in track and field, it's essential to assess their strengths, weaknesses, and goals initially. Develop a personalized training plan that addresses specific areas needing improvement while enhancing existing skills. Provide consistent feedback on technique, incorporate tailored strength and conditioning exercises, and emphasize mental preparation techniques. Support their nutrition and recovery needs, track progress regularly, and maintain a positive and encouraging coaching approach to foster continuous improvement and success in their athletic journey.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

A typical training week in track and field might look like this:

- Monday: Lactic workout, focusing on high-intensity intervals to build endurance and speed, often involving shorter distances at a fast pace.

- Tuesday: Speed workout, concentrating on developing maximum speed and technique over shorter distances like sprints or hurdles.

- Wednesday: Light recovery day, with activities such as easy jogging, stretching, or low-impact exercises to promote recovery and prevent injury.

- Thursday: Longer speed workout, incorporating longer intervals or tempo runs to enhance endurance and stamina.

- Friday: Body circuit or cross-training, involving exercises to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and prevent overuse injuries.

Each session would typically begin with a warm-up to prepare the muscles and joints for exercise, followed by the main workout focusing on specific aspects of speed, endurance, or technique. Cool-down and stretching would conclude each session to aid in recovery and flexibility and finish off with an ab workout. Adjustments to the training plan may be made based on individual needs, competition schedules, and overall fitness goals.

Career summary and accomplishments:

I have a rich background in coaching, beginning with mentoring my teammates and peers in high school. My deep knowledge of the sport has allowed me to effectively pass down skills and techniques to younger athletes. This process is incredibly rewarding, as I get to witness their growth and transformation into great athletes. It's fulfilling to know that my guidance and expertise have contributed to their success. In addition to coaching peers, I have also worked extensively with little kids. Coaching young children is a unique and enjoyable experience, as it requires patience, creativity, and a focus on fundamental skills. I strive to create a supportive and engaging environment where they can have fun while learning the basics of track and field. Seeing the positive impact of my coaching on both older and younger athletes reaffirms that I’m doing my job correctly and making a meaningful difference in their athletic journeys.

Best coach I ever had:

The best coach I've had is Coach Kerry Smith. A Canadian National Record Holder and a University of Texas at Austin full-ride athlete in track and field, Coach Smith brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the sport. His accomplishments and deep understanding of track and field have been instrumental in my development as an athlete. His guidance, training methods, and dedication to his athletes have made a significant impact on my performance and growth in the sport.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

Athletes and parents should know that I’m a very fun and outgoing person who creates a positive and enjoyable environment for everyone. I believe that fostering a supportive and upbeat atmosphere helps athletes thrive and perform their best. Despite my lighthearted nature, I am highly dedicated and focused when it comes to training and skill development. My approach balances hard work with enjoyment, ensuring that athletes not only improve but also have a memorable and positive experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you find yourself needing to cancel or adjust your booking within 24 hours of your purchase, just let us know. We'll provide a refund - no questions asked. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we're here to support your learning journey.

Our coaches are open to helping athletes of any age and skill level. Please message your desired coach to ensure their skillset fits your needs.

AU was created by former collegiate and professional athletes. We understand the benefits of training with a private coach. It develops discipline, boosts confidence, and provides an undeniable advantage - whether you are just learning the game or looking to earn a college scholarship. All AU coaches are required to pass a thorough onboarding process and we proudly showcase a 10% acceptance rate, so you can trust you're training with the best.

At the end of the day, our mission is to provide athletes with better opportunities to succeed through coaching. You won't find a platform, and group of dedicated specialists, more excited to help you achieve your athletic goals!
