Why Train With Me?

Former NCAA D2 PLAYER with much knowledge to offerAs a former starter at the University off Montevallo and a player who averaged 11 points per game at Lawson State, I bring firsthand knowledge of what it takes to compete at a high level. Now, as a middle school coach, I combine my on-court experience with a passion for teaching and developing players. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills, improve your basketball IQ, or take your game to the next level, training with me means learning from someone who’s been where you want to go and knows how to get you there.”

Athletic Background

Summary of Career and Accomplishments
Former high school MVP, leading the team with 23 PPG, 8 RPG, and guiding them to their first area championship in 10 years. Hit 2 legendary buzzer-beaters, including a half-court shot to win the championship and a full-court game-winner. Continued success at Lawson State, averaging 11 PPG, and as a starter at Montevallo. Now coaching middle school, I bring years of leadership, clutch experience, and basketball expertise to help players achieve their goals.”
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
The best coach I’ve ever had was Coach Bowen. He didn’t just teach us basketball; he taught us mental toughness. He never let us get in our own heads or doubt ourselves. Whether we were down in a game or struggling in practice, he had a way of pushing us to stay focused, confident, and composed. His belief in us made us believe in ourselves, and that made all the difference.”
What should athletes and parents know about you?
Athletes and parents should know that I’m passionate about developing well-rounded players, both on and off the court. I bring a wealth of experience, from being a high school MVP and leading my team to an area championship, to competing at the collegiate level at Lawson State and Montevallo. I know what it takes to excel under pressure, hit clutch shots, and grow as a team player. As a coach, I emphasize fundamentals, mental toughness, and basketball IQ. My goal is to build confidence, discipline, and skills that translate beyond the game, helping athletes reach their full potential.

Coaching Background

Summary of Coaching Background
With a strong background in both playing and coaching, I bring a wealth of experience to player development. I’ve coached middle school basketball and led a 7th-grade AAU team to a stellar 17-4 summer record. My coaching focuses on skill development, basketball IQ, and mental toughness, drawing from my own playing career as a high school MVP, college starter at Montevallo, and standout at Lawson State. I’m dedicated to helping athletes grow both on and off the court, fostering confidence, discipline, and a love for the game.”
How can you help someone improve their game?
My coaching philosophy is rooted in developing well-rounded athletes by focusing on fundamentals, basketball IQ, and mental toughness. I aim to create an environment where players not only improve their skills but also build confidence and discipline that translates beyond the court. Every player is unique, so I tailor my approach to meet their individual needs, helping them achieve their full potential while fostering a love for the game.”
What does a typical training session look like?
A typical 2-hour training session with me is structured to maximize skill development, conditioning, and basketball IQ. Here’s a breakdown of how it might go: First 15 minutes: Warm-up and Conditioning • Dynamic stretches (leg swings, arm circles) • Agility drills (ladder drills, cone drills) to improve footwork and quickness • Light ball-handling exercises to get the body moving and ready for more intense work Next 30 minutes: Skill Development (Shooting and Ball Handling) • Shooting drills focused on form, footwork, and consistency from various spots on the court • Dribbling drills to improve ball control, change of direction, and moves to beat defenders • Catch-and-shoot drills and off-the-dribble shooting to simulate in-game situations Next 30 minutes: Game Situations and IQ • Scrimmage or 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3 drills focused on decision-making, spacing, and reading the defense • Situational drills like pick-and-roll, fast breaks, and defensive rotations • Focus on basketball IQ—reading defenses, recognizing weaknesses, and making smart decisions under pressure Next 15 minutes: Strength and Conditioning • Core workouts and lower body strength training to build endurance and stability for in-game performance • Plyometric exercises (box jumps, squat jumps) to improve explosiveness Last 15 minutes: Cool Down and Review • Light jogging or walking to lower the heart rate • Static stretching to increase flexibility and prevent injury • Review of key takeaways from the session and individual feedback on areas for improvement This structure ensures players are developing all aspects of their game—skills, physicality, mental toughness, and understanding of the game—while maintaining a balance of intensity and recovery.
