Why Train With Me?

As a former high school player I have continued my passion for tennis as an assistant coach for the Hopkinton High School Boys tennis team since 2018. Since then I have contributed to 6 league titles, multiple state tournament berths and helped coach several league MVPs. I also try to grow the game through summer programs that involve group and private instruction for kids from age 6-13 at a private neighborhood association swim and tennis club for 6 years. Personally, I continue to play tennis as an active member of the USTA New England Community, frequently having success and even making it to the national level of doubles competition. If you are looking take your tennis to the next level, gain knowledge in strategy for both singles and doubles, or are just looking to learn the game for the first time, I am capable of teaching the game at all levels while making it the most enjoyable experience. My passion for the game of tennis is evident through my positivity, active listening, fostering of self-awareness, providing constructive feedback and constant encouragement. Tennis is one of the few sports that you can continue to play and enjoy competitively and socially for many years and I look forward to sharing my love for the game with others.

Athletic Background

Summary of Career and Accomplishments
I played on the Ashland High School Boys Tennis team from 2003-2006 as a doubles and singles player. I am a PTR Certified Member # 103365 -10 and Under -Professional - Adult Development
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
The best coach I ever had was a young woman at my private tennis club who completely transformed how I look at tennis. She was able to provide me with a new approach to the game that made it more enjoyable to play. Her initial stand-off approach which involved her closely watching how I played the game and constructed points made it possible for us to work together and really understand how to achieve my goals on the tennis court. I think as a coach it is important to work WITH your student and understand what they see and feel in order to have success. A lot of coaches talk AT their students instead of listening and working with them. That is something I constantly think about when coaching others.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
Athletes and parents should know how much I love and respect this game, that there is no perfect way to play and success can be measured in many different ways. I am a patient and curious person who wants to know what my student wants to achieve and why they want to do it. As a young parent I had to adapt very quickly to major lifestyle change and I believe that has contributed to my desire to coach. Similar to raising children, their enjoyment equals my enjoyment, their growth equals my growth, their success equals my success. This is how I approach coaching, patience, positivity and perseverance.

Coaching Background

Summary of Coaching Background
I have been fortunate to be apart of a great program at Hopkinton High School as an assistant coach to the Boys Tennis team since 2018. There I have learned a lot about coaching in the sphere of high school athletics as well as understanding the development of high school athletes. I also work as a tennis instructor for a private neighborhood association swim and tennis club during the summer where I have given group and private lessons to kids aging from 6-13. PTR Certified (#103365) Instructor - 10 and Under Professional - Adult Development
How can you help someone improve their game?
I can help an individual improve their game by showing them a wider view of tennis. I have always considered myself a very observant person and I believe that has helped me see and understand the game. Having played in high school, coached high school, and currently playing in 18+ USTA leagues I feel that I can bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding to someone who wants to have success on the tennis court. I know what its like to fail on the court as well as succeed, I can help someone not only improve their tennis abilities but also help them navigate the taxing emotional and mental struggles of the game. Tennis can be a very isolating sport and the responsibility can weigh heavily on someone who is alone of the court. I can help individuals understand that the pressure of each point does not have to be something to fear, but something to embrace.
What does a typical training session look like?
Initially we would start with mini-tennis (light hitting inside the service lines) and then move to baseline. Depending the person's experience level, whether they have played for years or a beginner, we would proceed to talk about the tennis court, appropriate terminology. Then we would move on to grip suggestions, swing path, footwork. Again, it all depends on their previous tennis experience. A beginner would require more focus on grip and volley while a more experienced player could focus on short control and selection, court movement and service tips.
