Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
Coach Marcus Newsom is the best coach I've ever had due to his constant reassurance in my ability and personalized training to fit athlete's specific needs. He stressed the importance of leadership and that everyone was a leader in different ways. The environment was always positive and respectful because of his high expectations of us to be strong young men and women.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
As a coach, I am deeply committed to each athlete’s growth—both on and off the track. I bring a blend of personalized coaching, proven training techniques, and a focus on building mental toughness. I focus on the fundamentals to refine technique, but I also emphasize the mindset needed to compete at the highest level. My approach is results-driven, but I value the process of development just as much.
For athletes, that means consistent progress, personalized attention, and a culture of hard work and resilience. For parents, it means open communication, clear goals, and a strong focus on their child’s long-term success, both in athletics and in life. I’m here to help every athlete reach their potential, push past their limits, and build the confidence to excel.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
In 2023, I had the privilege of coaching two junior high baseball athletes, focusing on enhancing their speed, coordination, and overall strength. Through a personalized training regimen tailored to their specific developmental needs, I worked to instill foundational athletic skills and improve their performance on and off the field. By combining targeted drills, strength-building exercises, and agility-focused routines, I aimed to equip them with the tools necessary to excel in their sport while fostering their confidence and physical resilience.
How can you help someone improve their game?
Personalized Assessment: I start by assessing their current skill level, strengths, and areas for improvement. Understanding their unique needs allows me to design a targeted plan that addresses both technical and physical aspects.
Technique Refinement: Whether it's sprinting mechanics, form, or positioning, I work to refine the fundamentals. Small adjustments in technique can lead to big gains in efficiency and performance.
Progressive Training: I create a structured progression of drills and workouts that challenge the athlete's skills while ensuring steady improvement. This helps build strength, endurance, and agility in a way that complements their specific event or discipline.
Mental Toughness: Success is often as much mental as it is physical. I work on building focus, confidence, and resilience, teaching athletes how to stay composed under pressure and visualize their success.
Feedback and Accountability: Constant feedback is key to improvement. I regularly provide constructive criticism, celebrate progress, and adjust training when necessary. Accountability ensures they stay motivated and committed to their development.
Tracking and Results: We set measurable goals and track progress to ensure we’re moving in the right direction. Adjustments are made based on performance data, ensuring that every training session brings them closer to their goal.
What does a typical training session look like?
With me, there is no typical session, but a structure would look something like this: Warmup, technical drills, main workout, cool down, and discussion.
