Get to know Coach Carra

About Me:

I began playing soccer in early elementary school and began coaching within a few years. I ran my own clinic for local youth in my hometown for multiple summers before volunteering to coach my younger brother's teams. I began playing varsity in 8th grade and received multiple all-region nominations and was a top goal scorer. In high school I played at two prep schools and was captain from my sophomore year through my senior year. During this time I also played club for the Development Academy and later received over 10 college offers. I attended two national cups with my club as well. Now I am a freshmen at Virginia State University. Throughout high school I played mostly as a center forward and in the midfield, since beginning at VSU I have played center forward, center back, and center mid. Before picking up an injury I was playing all 90 minutes of my games. Additionally, I play on a semi-pro women's team in the USL league first division. I am currently three months post-op from ankle surgery and looking forward to accomplishing more with my team.

How I can help you improve your game:

I can help someone improve their game in a variety of ways. This includes improving confidence and technique through continuous reps and honing in on specific skills. I can also help with soccer IQ by reviewing game film and providing feedback.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

A typical training session with me would start small. I always begin with stretching and injury prevention. Next is ball work. This targets first touch and foot skills. The drills depend on the athlete and their goals but during this portion of training light fitness will be worked in with the ball. From there I began to build bigger to passing, here I incorporate off the ball movement. Again these drills will depend on the athlete and their goals. Finally I move to shooting. before ending with off the ball recovery.

Career summary and accomplishments:

I began coaching shortly after I began playing. My first coaching experience was at my elementary school, indoor soccer with kindergarten and preschoolers. During middle school I ran my own summer soccer clinics for elementary schoolers in my town. I also have done free private training sessions with local athletes throughout high school. Finally, I have done film review and created highlight reels for those I know in the recruiting process. All my coaching experience has been voluntary but I look forward to the chance to make a career out of this interest.

Best coach I ever had:

My most impactful coach was my freshmen year coach. While I only played under this coach for one season before he continued his career elsewhere, he left me with a mentality that changed the way I played. As a player who struggled with confidence and would later struggle with coaching turnover and mistreatment, his emphasis of the mental component of the sport was critical for me. He impacted me in my sport in addition to my everyday mentality.

What athletes and parents should know about me:

Athletes and parents should know that I can provide experience and assistance in all aspects of this sport. I have a strong soccer IQ, which has been put to the test by playing three different positions in my college career. I also review and make highlight films for friends and family in the recruiting process which has sharpened my game understanding. Further I have experienced the recruiting process and am more than willing to guide your athlete through that. Finally, after two surgeries and many coaches I understand the challenges and mental blocks that athletes face off of the pitch. I will use all these experience to help guide your athlete and find joy in the game!

During summers I am in Western MA and willing to travel, I will be in Richmond area fall, spring, and winter.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.

Our coaches are open to helping athletes of any age and skill level. Please message your desired coach to ensure their skillset fits your needs.

AU was created by former collegiate and professional athletes. We understand the benefits of training with a private coach. It develops discipline, boosts confidence, and provides an undeniable advantage - whether you are just learning the game or looking to earn a college scholarship. All AU coaches are required to pass a thorough onboarding process and we proudly showcase a 10% acceptance rate, so you can trust you're training with the best.

At the end of the day, our mission is to provide athletes with better opportunities to succeed through coaching. You won't find a platform, and group of dedicated specialists, more excited to help you achieve your athletic goals!
