Athletic Background
Summary of Career and Accomplishments
I have participated competitively in several sports, but my favorite is Baseball, which I played through High School. After receiving no scholarships, I decided to focus on academia instead of attempting to walk on in college. I pursued a career in psychology, specifically focusing on behavior in efforts to help the athletes of the next generation be more prepared mentally for collegiate sports than I was. Since then, my athletic journey has shifted to non-competitive weight lifting and calisthenics, which I find to be effective confidence boosters!
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
The best coach I ever had was my dad. He coached my little league baseball team and the thing I remember most was how he was able to help every player identify their strengths and weaknesses. He somehow found ways to maximize our abilities while simultaneously focusing on things we weren't so good at. He loved choosing "misfits"; we were all small and inexperienced, but he had us growing, competing and beating everyone!
What should athletes and parents know about you?
Athlete's and parents should know that I have worked hard to learn from my own experiences to find the tactics to create individualized plans for your child. Everyone experiences difficulties in life. Through empathy, experience, eagerness to educate and a strong belief that there is a DAWG in everyone, I believe I can help athletes and parents develop the mental and/or physical edge for them to overcome obstacles they should face in their journeys. Ultimately, I want parents to know that my goal is for their child to maximize the amount of fun they have, and be proud of what they can achieve.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
In my youth I occasionally provided 1 on 1 coaching for various family friends. However, most of my coaching experience has been with children from 6 weeks up to 13 years. I was a fitness instructor focusing on strength, mobility, flexibility and cardio. I taught groups up to 20 through ninja warrior obstacle courses, Zumba, basic gymnastics and the basics of several other sports like kickball, baseball/softball, track and field, football and soccer.
How can you help someone improve their game?
We will improve by assessing your current level of participation and identifying strengths and weakness both on and off the field. After that, we will implement psychological skills (routines, planning, goal setting, imagery, etc.) to compliment your schedule, *not create busy work*. We will then re-assess and decide whether the new routine is helpful and sustainable.
What does a typical training session look like?
A typical session would consist of us practicing psychological skills to see which ones you believe will be the most helpful. Then, we will figure out how to apply them to preparation (training, film, even school/home tasks) and competition.
For sports performance, a typical session will focus on cardio, stability, mobility and flexibility, endurance, and functional strength.
