Athletic Background

Summary of Career and Accomplishments
Since 1978, I have loved the sport of Baseball from the time I first put on a glove and stepped onto the field. My position of choice was catcher, which I had the opportunity to play for 12+ years at the youth and amateur level. After being injured and not able to play I turned my attention to coaching, which has allowed me to give back and develop players for 30+ years. In 2021 I turned my focus from the physical skill development to mental skill development, 90% of the game that we do less than 10% of the time. This was after watching Varsity baseball players have meltdowns after things did not go their way on the playing field. During the summer and fall of 2022 & 2023 as the Head Coach of 18 recreational players who wanted the opportunity to play High School Baseball, the coaching staff and I developed those young players through drills both physically and mentally. In 2024, 15 of the 18 made their local high school baseball team. I currently am the Assistant JV Baseball Coach at Thomas Dale HS. I love the opportunity that I get to work with and develop these young players for the next level of their baseball careers.
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
Coach Boswell, my high school coach. He came out to watch the middle school team when I was in the 8th grade. He was also a catcher during his career. We bonded and I enjoyed having him come watch and support me not only at the school games but during the summer as well. He mentored me for 5 years and is the reason I became a coach. I wanted the opportunity to mentor and develop baseball players not only on the field but help prepare them for life off the field.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I am very passionate about guiding players as they develop the physical and mental skills needed to succeed on and off the field. I am a firm believer that academics are important and reflects the attitude and effort of each player. Each individual player isn't just a client but someone I can impact by helping transform their life in a positive way even if their goal isn't to play baseball beyond high school. I expect progress each session to be at least 1% better than the previous. I want this experience to be transformational and not transactional.

Coaching Background

Summary of Coaching Background
I got my start coaching back in 1990. I have had the opportunity to coach high school, recreation baseball and softball, and travel ball. I have learned and grown along with the sport. I currently coach high school baseball beginning in the fall - spring. Summer - winter months I offered 1:1 hitting, catching, and mental performance lessons. Even after 30 years I do not claim to know everything. That is why during my off time I continue to read, learn, and grow to gain the knowledge and skills I need to help the players of today. After seeing a need for players to learn more about mental toughness, I signed up to gain the skills from one of the best to became certified as a Mental Performance Mastery Coach through Brian Cain's (Peak Performance) MPMC Course.
How can you help someone improve their game?
We can all improve our game. Becoming a top performer is hard and requires a lot of focus so that we are prepared to perform when the opportunity becomes ours. Whether it be physical or mental, we need drills that develop skills which gives us a skill set. Each player is unique and requires not necessarily a makeover in mechanics but a slight adjustment in mindset, habits/routine, or self-confidence. We have all heard trust the process. The problem is most do not even know what the process is that they trust. This is where I come in, with a set of proven techniques and some hard work. Together we can optimize your performance as you prepare for the next level to becoming the best version of you on and off the field.
What does a typical training session look like?
Each session begins with an assessment: Well, Better, How? To evaluate what it is you know, have experienced, and your particular needs. Then we move on to preparation: meditation and drill work that is unique to your skill development. At the end we will discuss a written developmental plan (aka homework) whether it be between sessions or performances to be reviewed during our next session. Accountability is important as we will have short periodic check-ins between sessions as needed.
