How I can help you improve your game:

Each person learns differently so the most important skill I can use as a Coach is listening to each client and meeting them where they are so I don't waste the client's time or have unrealistic expectations.

Coaching is the same as tutoring and I find out the strengths and weaknesses of the client so we have a foundation to build on and can then increase the skills incremently.

Then I listen to the short-term and long-term goals of the client and begin skill development that address those goals directly which will show improvement immediately.

What a typical training session looks like with me:

Communicate where we are and where we want to go for long-term goals and how does that show up in today's session

>Warm-up >Implement Specific Requested Drills Practice>Free Throws>If have extra time then focus any other fundamental areas not covered such as Dribbling, Rebounds, 3 point shot, etc...

>Communicate with each other about what was accomplished in this session and discuss the next session and expectations

Career summary and accomplishments:

Over 10 years of one-on-one sports specific training and personal fitness training. Basketball is my favorite sport and I have taught a College Level Basketball course for many semesters and actually developed the course curriculum. Experience as one-on-one Basketball Trainer for Sport Specific Skill Development. Started and coached an inner-city youth basketball team for ages 12-17 in order to be a mentor and develop teamwork and individual skills Many semesters as a College Instructor of Basketball, Health Education, and Fitness During my Master's program developed a 6 weeks basketball skills development curriculum and coached/taught these skills to students at a local Wilmington elementary school k-5 program. Currently in my 3rd straight year as a YMCA volunteer basketball coach for my teenage son's team due to his request and at the request of the other parents for me to return as the coach

Best coach I ever had:

My first year ever playing on a basketball team was in 6th grade and the best coach I ever had was my first coach, Coach Davis, because he was my coach for 3 years and taught me all of the basics and how to learn all of the fundamentals of basketball and team work. During his 3rd and last year as my coach when I was in 8th grade, we went undefeated at 19-0 and won the state Junior Varsity championship in the small private schools association due to our focus on the fundamentals.

Coach Davis emphasized defense, passing, rebounds, and valuing the ball. He never yelled at us and was kind but kept us in line and focused on developing our skills and improving our team communication.

Coach Davis was a generous person and bought me and my brothers our first pairs of basketball shoes ever. I have never forgotten Coach Davis and his kindness and great example of coaching!

What athletes and parents should know about me:

I love the joy and fun and creativity and teamwork in the game of basketball. Basketball has been my favorite sport since I was 10 years old which was the first time I ever picked up a basketball. I am a kind and respectful communicator with a laid back personality and have a calming demeanor.

I would love to increase your skills and pass on the joy of the game and the secrets on how to improve your skills in every area that you desire.

I also have experience as a personal trainer working with clients up to 89 yrs. old and also as a k-12 and college level math and science tutor.

As a tutor I understand that every client is unique and learns in their own way.

I believe that you should always try to help others and give back to your community so my son and I are active volunteers helping the needy in Wilmington and we love living on the coast in a "basketball state".

Let's go play some bball together and have some fun!

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to message a coach for the first time, go to their profile and click “Send a Message”. A type box will show, where you can enter and send your message. To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.

Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.

Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!

We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.

Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.

The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.

Our coaches are open to helping athletes of any age and skill level. Please message your desired coach to ensure their skillset fits your needs.

AU was created by former collegiate and professional athletes. We understand the benefits of training with a private coach. It develops discipline, boosts confidence, and provides an undeniable advantage - whether you are just learning the game or looking to earn a college scholarship. All AU coaches are required to pass a thorough onboarding process and we proudly showcase a 10% acceptance rate, so you can trust you're training with the best.

At the end of the day, our mission is to provide athletes with better opportunities to succeed through coaching. You won't find a platform, and group of dedicated specialists, more excited to help you achieve your athletic goals!
